This one year course promotes a range of skills and competencies necessary for students to work as Healthcare Assistants in a range of care environments such as hospitals, nursing homes and in the community

This is a one-year, full-time programme that provides learners with the relevant qualifications to work in the healthcare sector as healthcare assistants/support staff in hospitals, nursing homes or in the community. Our students are provided with the professional skills and qualifications necessary to pursue a career in the emergency services.

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings to enhance their role in service provision to service users or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

This course is designed fo healthcare assistants to develop and update their skills and this innovative course aims to build on existing knowledge and skills with a view to developing your current role or to prepare you to work in a supervisory capacity.

The supportive environment in Inchicore College along with the experience and knowledge of our healthcare teachers will help you to acquire new skills in areas such as human resources management, health promotion and conflict resolution.You will also extend your knowledge and practice experience with an emphasis on person-centred planning and care.

This QQI Advanced Level 6 Certificate course offers holders of a QQI Level 5 health-related award the opportunity to undertake further study in this area. The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to undertake Supervisory Management roles in the community and in a range of Health Services settings.

It is suitable for candidates currently working as a healthcare assistant in a hospital, nursing home, daycare centre and in the client’s own home in a supervisory position or those who wish to progress to a Supervisory/Management role.

Learners complete work experience in a clinical/ward environment and are trained using simulation equipment to help them understand how to care for people. Successful learners could go on to work in many different healthcare settings including hospitals, nursing homes and register with agencies for home help services.

You’ll gain a broad understanding of healthcare principles, legal requirements, and best practices, all while developing essential skills for interacting with and caring for a diverse range of clients. The course emphasises critical thinking, allowing you to plan and implement appropriate care strategies under supervision. Upon completion, you’ll be well-prepared to work as a healthcare support worker or progress to further education and training in healthcare.

This course is designed to prepare students to work as a healthcare assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, community settings and hospitals. There are practical and academic components in this course including skills demonstrations, assignments, exams and project work.
