ATU Sligo offer a wide range of engineering programmes including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Precision Engineering and Design. This degree offers students the opportunity to study engineering in a general way for a semester before specialising in an area of their choice. This general engineering semester gives students exposure to all different types of engineering and equips them with the fundamentals of engineering.

Students on this course combine the knowledge of physical sciences and engineering education with practical experience to invent, design, manufacture, run and maintain mechanical systems equipment and tools. Course topics include mechanics, fluids, heat, mathematics, materials, manufacturing, and computer-aided design.

MEng Hons Engineering Management is a five-year, fully CEng accredited, engineering course that is designed to equip you with a valuable blend of engineering and business skills. You will study a wide range of subjects that explore topics such as engineering technology and materials, manufacturing systems and processes, new product design and mechanical engineering, as well as studies in business and management.

The course develops your skills in analysis, problem solving and design, as well as valuable professional skills in communications, teamwork and project management. The course includes a year-long paid industrial placement during your third year. This allows you to experience and participate in real-life engineering projects and learn how theory relates to practice. Successful completion of the placement leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP) upon graduation. There are options throughout the course to study subjects of particular interest to you or your career aspirations.

The BEng Hons Engineering Management is a four-year, professionally accredited engineering course that is designed to equip you with a valuable blend of engineering and management skills.

Engineering Management graduates play a key role in design and manufacture where the challenges include the development of more efficient and effective manufacturing systems and processes, the creation of innovative products, global sustainability and the building of new business models to support high-value manufacturing.

This course provides a foundation for students who wish to pursue further studies in
Engineering at Third Level. It is devised for school leavers and also for mature applicants.
It will enable graduates to progress to third level courses or to pursue opportunities in apprenticeships or employment.

An engineering services manager will be capable of managing the performance of a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment and associated services in commercial/industrial scale facilities throughout the entire system life cycle. This will involve liaison with designers and consultants, contracting companies, installation/commissioning/maintenance personnel, statutory agencies and end-users.

Key elements include the planning of activities, the identification and management of resources required and performance optimisation given due consideration to technical, commercial and safety/environmental aspects. The Manager will be practised in the supervision of the work of others and in communication with the various stakeholders involved in new project installations and/or in the management of existing facilities.

This programme is designed as an add-on qualification for holders of the Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate or equivalent.

This course may be of interest to students who are considering pursuing a degree in engineering. It is also of particular relevance to those who require a science subject or mathematics to progress to further study. Upon completion of this course in Engineering Technology, students will have gained a theoretical understanding of, and acquired practical competencies in common measuring and inspection techniques used in the engineering industry, the properties of engineering materials and common machining methods, the use of a range of tools and equipment (e.g., milling machine, lathe, drilling machine as well a variety of other measuring and hand tools) as well as CNC programming. Students will also develop good work practices, including adherence to health and safety in an engineering workshop environment and the renewable energy sector.

Engineers are the innovators and problem solvers of the modern era. From simple structures the complex, a door handle to a supercar an engineer has been involved from concept design to production. This course is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to enter employment at apprenticeship level or progress onto professional engineering programmes at various universities and Institutes of Technology.

The course aims to educate and train students in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on the technical requirements of industry in Ireland. The course is a preparation for direct employment in an engineering industry. It will provide students with a solid foundation to study an engineering course at third level.

Students studying Mechanical Engineering have access to technical workshops, fitted with a variety of specialist equipment, including lathe, milling machine, cnc, mig, tig and arc welding.

This program offers a dynamic blend of practical and theoretical modules, specifically focusing on Electronics and Robotics. Designed as a robust foundation for the engineering sector, it prepares students for successful progression to third-level university degrees or entry into highly skilled apprenticeships, bridging the gap between classroom concepts and real-world technical application.

The aim of this course is to provide learners with a basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering. Students will gain practical skills to pursue a career in the Engineering industry and have an introduction to theory necessaryfor entry into Third Level education. Students will also have the opportunity to study QQI Level 5 Maths required for entry into Engineering courses at Third Level. In this course learners will through theory and practice gain experience in the following: Machine Processes, Bench Fitting, Precision Measurement, Computer Aided Design, 3D Printing & Electronics.

The course aims to develop skills, knowledge, and expertise essential to gaining an apprenticeship in a range of trades in the industry, as well as providing progression opportunities to those interested in studying engineering at third level.

Graduates will be crucial in designing, controlling and managing challenging projects and tasks such as innovative products, developing sustainable global systems, efficient processes, and developing entrepreneurial skills such as creating new business models to support high-value manufacturing settings. Engineering Technology Management graduates will develop the technical expertise of engineers combined with a comprehension of the business and industrial environment and the capacity to develop creative solutions. 

Engineering Technology Management was created for students with an essential combination of core engineering. Graduates will be crucial in managing, designing and controlling challenging projects and tasks such as innovative products, developing sustainable global systems, efficient processes, implementing Big Data and AI analytics and developing entrepreneurial skills such as creating new business models to support high-value manufacturing settings. Engineering Technology Management graduates will develop the technical expertise of engineers combined with a comprehension of the business and industrial environment and the capacity to develop creative solutions. 

Engineering with Management is concerned with the analysis, design, improvement, installation, and management of integrated systems of people, finance, materials and equipment.

Our graduates have the technical skills common to all excellent engineers, with this knowledge augmented by an understanding of the commercial and industrial environment and the ability to generate innovative solutions to the problems of the world.

Built around a core of significant authors writing in English from Elizabethan times to the end of the Twentieth Century, from Shakespeare to Seamus Heaney, we provide the opportunity for you to follow your own interests through a wide range of optional modules.

Two thirds of the course is made up these: you can, for example, take strands on creative and professional writing, women's writing and gender studies, and American literature; or select from modules on contemporary writing, modern drama, love poetry, film adaptation, or Beat culture, to name just a few. In your final year, you will be guided by a member of the teaching team and write a dissertation on a topic of your own choice.

This combination of one-third core study and two-thirds specialist optional modules will allow you to develop your own areas of expertise whilst still attaining a solid grounding in the history of English literature.

Students undertaking English explore literatures in English in the widest possible sense and work with some of the leading writers working in the UK and Ireland. From the earliest writings in Anglo-Saxon to contemporary Irish, British, and 'global' literatures, students study English in its historical, cultural, and material contexts.

The Bachelor of Arts in English and History programme offers you the attractive opportunity to obtain a DCU undergraduate degree through online learning, which is more open and flexible than if you registered for a full-time, or part-time, campus-based programme.

The English and History subject areas are each presented as a suite of six modules which cover different aspects of that subject, for example Land, Politics & Society in Independent Ireland in History or The Renaissance in Literature.
