This course can support progression to higher education courses in a variety of nursing disciplines.

The aim of this one year full time course is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings and / or to progress to further or higher education and training.

This one-year Nursing Studies course will introduce you to practical experience in healthcare clinical settings which, combined with an insight into theories relating to the nursing profession, will enable them to deliver high standards of care. This course is designed to combine aspects of nursing theory and practical aspects of clinical nursing experience. 

The purpose of this programme is to prepare the student for all aspects of nursing. The student is introduced to a wide variety of modules with a work placement element to the programme, which gives the student the opportunity and the experience of working in a setting of their choice under supervision.

The programme also prepares the students for progression to third level with UCAS and CAO preparation.

Nursing Studies is a one-year course for students wishing to train as Nurses both here in Ireland and in the UK. On completion of this course students can apply to Nursing Degree courses through the QQI entry system. It provides a solid foundation in Nursing theory and practice and allows students to accurately assess their suitability for a career in nursing. Applications are also invited from mature students wishing to pursue a career in nursing.

This course provides essential elements of knowledge, competence and skill for academic progression or employment within the healthcare setting. The course provides the foundation skills and entry requirements to Degree Progammes in Ireland and the UK. The course encourages an appreciation of the work involved in caring for all age groups, and emphasises the importance of interpersonal communication.

You will be introduced to subjects/topics commonly studied in the first year of the nursing degree programme. Learn about the skills and knowledge of the nursing profession with an emphasis on respect, dignity, empathy and confidentiality.
