This course provides a hands-on introduction to the leisure and fitness industry, prioritizing a "learning by doing" approach through intensive practical modules. In addition to earning a QQI Level 5 Award in Sports, Recreation, and Exercise, students gain professional coaching certifications from Basketball Ireland and the FAI. 

This course is suitable for you if you have a strong interest in sport and exercise science and wish to pursue a career in high performance sport, a clinical profession (e.g. physiotherapy, dietetics, medicine) and/or scientific research in sport and health sciences. Our Bachelor of Science in Sports & Exercise with degree award options: Performance or Physical Education, is a four year programme that combines your passion for sports with a successful career progress through the course. Studying sport or exercise at third level is an opportunity to harness your passion and combine it with the knowledge to build a wonderful career in either sports performance or physical education studies. The first two years provide the core foundation of the degree, while the last two years allow you to specialise.

This programme allows you to use a scientific approach to analyse performance in sport and exercise and to develop academic and professional skills which you can use to find employment in this expanding field. Science subjects studied include physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition.

This course develops analytical leaders with the problem-solving skills to drive innovation within the community and commercial sport sectors. The sports and exercise elements of the course develop professional and leadership skills in activities enjoyed by the general population throughout their lifespan.
