The Motor Mechanic program is designed to develop highly skilled technicians capable of servicing, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of vehicles, including light passenger cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles. Students gain hands-on expertise in mechanical systems and electronic diagnostics, learning to identify and resolve complex faults with precision. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on manual dexterity, rigorous health and safety standards, and organized workshop practices.  

This pre-apprenticeship programme in motor vehicle mechanics will provide you with the perfect grounding for progression to employment as an Apprentice Motor mechanic. This is a highly practical course that will help you build the technical skills and understanding to successfully apply for a position as an apprentice mechanic.

You will learn how to locate, identify and carry out a routine maintenance on a variety of mechanical and electrical components using test models and real vehicles in our Automotive Engineering workshop. You will also gain useful skills in health and safety, communications, maths, teamworking and independent learning.

A motor mechanic is responsible for the servicing, maintenance and fault diagnosis of light passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Motor mechanics carry out routine service procedures as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, as well as diagnosing and resolving problems with the operation of the mechanical and electrical systems of vehicles. Motor mechanics are also involved in examining and preparing vehicles for the National Car Test (NCT) or the Commercial Vehicle Road Worthiness Test (CVRT).

The programme consists of 7 phases in total combining a mixture of ‘on the job’ learning and on campus training.

You may then choose to work as a motor mechanic in the motor industry in a dealership, repair shop or test centres like the NCT.

This one year full time course at Post Leaving Certificate level is ideally suited for students who aspire to apprenticeships in the motor industry and related fields. Its aim is to provide students with a thorough grounding in Motor Vehicle Maintenance practices.

The Bachelor of Music full-time degree programme is designed to educate music students to a professional level as performers (both classical and Irish traditional). It also prepares students for careers as instrumental or vocal teachers, as composers and musicology graduates.

All students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents by participating in a diverse programme of concerts, recitals and stage performances.

This four-year programme places a major emphasis on performance combined with supporting academic study. This course introduces students to a wide variety of music fields including: Irish traditional music, ethnomusicology, jazz and popular music, music therapy and the classical repertoire.

Students are encouraged to develop their performance skills, to take tuition to an advanced level with their chosen instrument and to take an active part in one of the Department's vocal or instrumental ensembles.
