This course is intended for students whose first language is not English. It provides a full award at QQI level 5 in Business Studies. It is expected that students will have a B1 level on the CEF scale (Common European Framework) when joining this course. Students will have the opportunity to attend 10 hours of intensive English language classes which will be accredited at QQI level 5 as well as being prepared for examination in IELTS (International English Language Testing System.This course is designed to give students an in-depth knowledge of concepts relevant to the business world with an emphasis on accounting, administration, marketing and computing.

You will study texts ranging from the Old English, medieval and early modern periods to the nineteenth and through to the twenty-first century – writing which extends across national boundaries and regions, from British to Irish to American to World Literature, and covering multiple genres. You will explore literary production, value and impact – how fiction, poetry and drama are inspired, shaped, released and received in particular historical and cultural contexts. You will learn how the meanings of literary texts change and renew across time and space.

Studying two languages at Trinity will enable you to develop your skills to a level where you can communicate confidently and competently on virtually any subject and in every situation. Students combine this subject with their choice of French, German, Irish, Russian or Spanish.

The History programme combines the strength of a broad-based programme in the first two years, introducing all students to the sheer diversity of historical studies, with the freedom to explore areas of particular interest to individual students in the final two years. The first and second years provide a range of modules covering medieval and modern periods, including Irish, European, and American history, as well as some modules exploring the skills and methods which historians use, and the kinds of debates in which historians engage.

History of Art and Architecture is about the study of images, objects and buildings. It is unique in developing high levels of visual literacy applicable to a range of career pathways. It explores why works of art look the way they do and seeks to discover what they say about the societies that created them. It develops skills in visual analysis, critical assessment, and communication.

What is Middle Eastern, Jewish and Islamic Civilisations

Middle Eastern, Jewish and Islamic Civilisations is the study of the historical origins as well as contemporary culture of a wide range of societies of the region, providing you with an insight into the contemporary Middle East and to the challenges of diversity and multiculturalism in an increasingly globalised world.

This course offers the opportunity to engage in depth with questions of metaphysics (about the fundamental nature of reality), epistemology (the theory of knowledge), ethics (theories of right and wrong), political philosophy (the nature of the just state), philosophy of religion (reasoning about God), philosophy of mind (questions about thought, language and reason) and various other areas.

If you want to understand the social changes taking place in the world today, and you are curious about people and society, then Sociology is for you. You will also gain the ability to understand topical issues and to present and communicate information and thoughts coherently. In addition, you will learn invaluable analytical, communication, research and presentation skills – transferable skills which can be applied to a wide range of careers and postgraduate programmes.

Students undertaking English and Creative Writing explore literatures in English in the widest possible sense and work with some of the leading writers working in the UK and Ireland. From the earliest writings in Anglo-Saxon to contemporary Irish, British, and 'global' literatures, students study English in its historical, cultural, and material contexts.

The language modules explore the history, structure, and function of English; its day-to-day usage, including in the media; and the major influences that have shaped its development. The creative writing modules allow students on this programme to specialise in prose fiction, poetry, and scriptwriting.

If your interest in literature extends to an ambition to write creatively, this degree programme will support that ambition through classes, workshops, and seminars dedicated to the development of your creative talent. In the final year, you will work on – and complete to high standard – a substantial writing project. To help you reach this standard, you will be advised and directed by one of the supervisors on the Creative Writing or English team.

Built around a core of significant authors writing in English from Elizabethan times to the end of the Twentieth Century, from Shakespeare to Seamus Heaney, we provide the opportunity for you to follow your own interests through a wide range of optional modules. Two thirds of the course is made up these: you can, for example, take strands on creative and professional writing, women's writing and gender studies, and American literature; or select from modules on contemporary writing, modern drama, love poetry, film adaptation, or Beat culture, to name just a few.

In your final year, you will be guided by a member of the teaching team and write a dissertation on a topic of your own choice. 

For those interested in a career in teaching, the modules on Education will give you a taste of theory and practice employed in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges. You can also take courses on creative and professional writing to develop your skills as a communicator and raise your game for the jobs market. 

Study English, Drama and Film if you are interested in the relationships between literature, drama, film, and media cultures. Refine your critical engagement with a wide variety of texts and cultures, in different genres and media, and across different national and historical locations.

Consider the role of cultural representation across a diverse range of genres, forms and time periods in shaping community and societal structures and beliefs. Explore how the study of English, Drama and Film intersects with questions of gender, race, and identity. Become a critical and creative thinker.

Applicants must have completed BIM’s Basic Safety Training Course.

Environmental engineers work on issues of sustainability, provide safe and secure drinking water, collect, treat and properly dispose of wastewater and other wastes, design flood protection measures, maintain or improve air and noise quality, design sustainable urban drainage systems, clean up contaminated land and groundwater, and help communities and industry minimise pollution, among many other activities.
