The National Hairdressing Apprenticeship is a three-year, work-based program that combines 80% on-the-job training with 20% college-based education. Leading to a Level 6 Major Award, the course ensures that theoretical learning is reinforced by practical experience in a professional salon environment. Apprentices develop a comprehensive range of skills—including styling, coloring, and cutting—graduating as confident, autonomous professionals ready to deliver high-quality services and navigate the business culture of the hairdressing industry.

This Course aims to prepare students for employment in the Hairdressing Industry. Students will be given training and confidence to secure an Apprenticeship in a Hairdressing Salon. Emphasis is put on all key areas of Hairdressing which will enhance student's techniques, creative and inter-personal skills. All practical training takes place in fully equipped Hair Salon.

The college offers a QQI Level 5 Hairdressing course which provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the hairdressing profession. The course covers all aspects of the industry, including work experience, and equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to progress into an apprenticeship.

The college is proud to deliver the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship in Hairdressing and works closely with employers and all key stakeholders in the Hairdressing industry.

This course combines both ladies hairdressing and barbering skills providing the learner with an overview of the hairdressing industry. Upon successful completion of this course, students may gain placement as an apprentice in a hairdressing salon.

This is a one-year full time QQI Level 5 and Junior Trade course, with intensive training in the skills and education required for the Barbering and hairstyling Industry. Students will have the option to progress into a second year to achieve higher qualifications in Senior Trade and International City and Guilds Diploma. Our highly qualified team with years of industry experience, provide training in the fully equipped college hairdressing salon. Our work experience programme offers students the opportunity to further develop their skills in selected and approved Barbers and Hairdressing salons in Ireland and abroad.

This programme has been designed to help enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand different infestation of pests and to the best control measures required to identify current legislation and correct mixing application and storage of hand held pesticides.

This programme has been designed to help enable participants to develop the knowledge, skills and competency necessary to ensure that people involved in the sale and/or distribution of pesticides are appropriately trained to cope with situations that may arise during the pesticide distribution phase.

This programme has be approved and will meet all the requirement set under the National Action plan for the Sustainable Use of Pesticides. On completion of this programme participants will be able to register as a approved distributor and understand all storage, handling, distribution and disposal requirements for pesticides as required under legislation.

This programme has been designed in conjunction with Medical Administration personnel from some major hospitals. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and routines required to successfully gain employment in medical administrative settings. The course includes the modules Medical Terminology and Audio Transciption.

The programmes consist of applied, active training programmes (massage casework, aquatic therapy, applied anatomy and posture, functional assessment, fitness testing) and the theoretical foundations underpinning the population health and wellbeing and optimal body function through massage/body work.

This honours degree provides you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and professional skills in preparation for an exciting career in the health, exercise and sports sector – and as a massage therapist.

The programmes consist of applied, active training programmes (massage casework, aquatic therapy, aquatic rehabilitation, applied anatomy and posture, functional assessment, fitness testing) and the theoretical foundations underpinning the promotion of wellness (wellbeing science, behaviour change, exercise referral) and optimal body function through massage/ body work.

This course explores how physical activity can positively impact the human body and mind. Students will undertake a comprehensive blend of modules in a broad range of health and physical activity related disciplines, and they will be provided with an opportunity to apply this theoretical and practical knowledge and skills during two work placements throughout the programme.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will graduate with the scientific knowledge and skills required to effectively design, implement, manage and evaluate health and physical activity programmes for a diverse range of population groups.

This major award is accepted in Ireland to work in Healthcare and the learner will complete knowledge criteria online through the Company’s Learning Management System, they will also provide evidence of competence in the work environment through observations of practice.

This course is suitable for everyone wishing to gain a qualification in Healthcare.

AU391 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Health and Social Care has been formally approved by CORU, Ireland’s multi-profession health regulator. The course based in ATU Donegal is the third course at ATU to be approved by CORU in recent years and marks its commitment to providing high-quality education in the field of Health and Social Care Practice.

This course has been designed to enable you to discover all the aspects of health issues, and learn how to understand, research and act to improve the health of populations. 

During the course, you’ll encounter many different ways of thinking about and acting on health issues, including biological, social, political, ethical and psychological perspectives. You’ll not only learn about different potential career paths, but you’ll also get to focus many projects and other programme activities on your own health interests.

As a Health and Society student, you’ll participate in a voluntary community project in your first year, then go on to design and implement a health equity campaign in second year. In your final year, you’ll complete a health research project and write your final dissertation.

Once you’ve completed the programme, you could go on to work in a state or voluntary health or social agency, or go to work in overseas development. Many of our graduates apply to go directly into further study, such as a postgraduate programme in occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, health promotion, social research and a wide range of other areas.

The health and wellbeing strand aims to provide learners with the space to explore their own sense of wellbeing. To nourish the mind, body and soul and to encourage resilience and self-care in a supportive atmosphere.
