The aim of this course is to provide students with an excellent foundation in computer games design. Students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills that are fundamental to the craft of games design and production. All aspects of games development from concept to storyboard creation and design through to the development of functioning 2D and 3D games are covered.

The Games Development course is designed to encourage the development of key games development skills especially in the areas of games software programming, design, graphics and project management. Learners will learn how to use and implement popular game engines like Unity 3D in the creation of their own games software titles while studying core development languages. Additionally, learners will create graphics, animations, sound and look at their implementation possibilities for modern technologies such as the web, mobile devices and gaming consoles. Learners will get hands on experience of exciting technologies such as motion capture, AR and VR.

Successful learners will have an extensive knowledge of games software development as well as an extensive portfolio of work including individual games.

This degree uses a software engineering approach to games development, combining study of the technical aspects of games programming, including virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence, with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organisational management.  While focused on developing games software, we also provide a general grounding in software engineering to equip students with the breadth of skills to work in any aspect of the information technology industry.

This new dynamic course aims to provide students with the knowledge, creative skills and technological competences necessary for a career in the food and/or culinary sector. The course is designed to reinforce and enhance the student’s knowledge of scientific principles, processes and technologies through the study of food. will focus on a new food product development, entrepreneurship, and introduction to sensory and consumer science. The final years of study will focus on the acquisition of scientific skills in food science, sensory and flavor science.

Graduates will develop the skills necessary for an exciting career in food research and development and/or the culinary sector. The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Culinary and Gastronomic Sciences aims to provide the student with the knowledge, creative skills and technological competences necessary for a career in the food and/or culinary sector. The course is designed to reinforce and enhance the student’s knowledge of scientific principles, processes and technologies through the study of food. 

This course provides the learner with a solid foundation in a variety of modules focusing on literacy, numeracy, computing skills and personal development.  Develop the relevant knowledge skill and competence to use a range of skills and tools, under direction. Leads to a range of employment opportunities or to further education or training.

The Certificate in General Learning and Personal Development (CGLPD) at Mary Immaculate College is a two-year programme for people with intellectual disabilities delivered in an inclusive third level setting.
