Linguistics

Students of Linguistics engage in evidence-based analysis of language, acquiring skills and techniques that allow investigation of different aspects of language structure such as sound, words and grammar. This involves key transferable skills in problem solving and critical thinking.

Philosophy

This course offers the opportunity to engage in depth with questions of metaphysics (about the fundamental nature of reality), epistemology (the theory of knowledge), ethics (theories of right and wrong), political philosophy (the nature of the just state), philosophy of religion (reasoning about God), philosophy of mind (questions about thought, language and reason) and various other areas.

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the study of literature and culture in an Irish context. The course further aims to equip learners with knowledge, skill and competence to critically approach artistic and literary production in Ireland. Learners will explore texts and artefacts from a range of perspectives to understand how cultural identify is both shaped and perceived.

In addition to gaining an excellent grounding in Anglo-Irish Literature and Irish culture, learners will also study History and Psychology to better frame their understanding of literature and cultural developments in an Irish context. The course also offers learners the opportunity to develop their creative writing and a range of practical skills in a friendly and supportive environment led by highly experienced teachers.

This specialized music stream provides a comprehensive combination of practical and theoretical training in sound engineering, music production, and live performance, taught by active industry professionals. Designed for students aspiring to a career in the live music industry, the course offers one-to-one music classes, collaborative performance opportunities in a dedicated live venue, and training in stage management, live mixing, lighting, and gig promotion. Alongside developing stage skills, students learn to track and engineer songs in an industry-standard recording studio and produce digital mixes using an iMac suite equipped with premier software like Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and Adobe Audition, ensuring they graduate fully prepared for diverse paths in the music sector.

Pearse College are delighted to continue our Skills to Advance programme which provides free upskilling courses for those currently employed in a logistics or healthcare sector. All classes take place online, one afternoon a week. IT support classes will be available to students throughout the course.

Logistics is the management of the flow of goods, information, and other resources including energy and people, between the point of origin and the point of consumption, in order to meet the requirements of consumers.

The graduate will be provided with the wide-ranging knowledge and skills necessary to function as an effective professional in a national and international context, and will display a capacity for critical enquiry, capable are working in an environment of persistent change.

A logistics associate typically liaises with transportation companies to create a good working relationship. It will involve preparation of invoices for orders and deliveries as part of record keeping measures. Record-keeping of shipping, road and air freight activities, documenting procedures, guidelines and changes in procedures for reference purposes. A logistics associate is responsible for ensuring compliance with customs duties, controls, tariff, international conventions and agreements.

Those that successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Level 6 Higher Certificate from MTU.

This course is designed to equip students with a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to work in the beauty industry. Students will gain hands-on experience in beauty and theatrical makeup settings. Students who complete this course may gain employment in a range of different settings including TV, Theatre, their own beauty salon as well as many hospitality settings.

This course covers all aspect of make-up artistry, including fashion, theatre, TV, film and special effects make-up. It combines the technical skills and artistic elements required of a make-up artist with a focus on fashion co-ordination, hair styles and special effects. 

This make-up artistry course covers the skills required to perform effective make-up techniques suitable for various professional media, theatre and stage productions. As part of this course in make-up artistry, students create make-up looks for fashion shows, magazine shoots and theatrical performances and in the process develop a comprehensive portfolio featuring a range of different looks.

This exciting course covers all aspects of professional Make-Up Artistry that includes Advanced High Fashion Make-Up, Make-Up for Theatre, TV and Film, Special Effects Make-up. You’ll learn Make-Up techniques, developing skills that respond to various contexts and briefs. You will use our professional purpose built facilities, and top-end products.

This one-year course is an intensive course designed for students who wish to pursue a career as a Make-Up Artist in the Film, Media and Fashion industry. This course combines the range of practical skills and theoretical subjects necessary to enable students to specialise in this area including working in film, TV programmes/dramas, commercials, music videos, fashion shoots, as retail make- up artists and as private freelance make-up artists.
 

Various industry related workshops will be incorporated into the course with professionals who actively work in the Film, Media and Fashion Industries.  Students will design and create prosthetic pieces, bald caps, facial hair pieces and various looks for each module based on detailed briefs, as per assessment criteria. Students will supplement their studies with work experience in a relevant area.

The BSc (Hons) Management course at Ulster is a degree that puts a major emphasis on personal and skills development in relation to management and leadership. You will learn what to do, and crucially how to do it. Designed to give you the relevant knowledge and professional skills valued in today's workplace you will learn via live consultancy projects based in real life organisations. This will not only ensure that you have the practical know how to make an impact in organisations as soon as you graduate but also will allow you to network with top organisations leading to future employment prospects.

You will study the important aspects of leadership, management and business, including strategy, marketing, finance, human resource management, operations management, entrepreneurship and personal development. You will also develop key skills beneficial to your own personal development including presenting, critical analysis, problem solving, team building, communication and decision-making.

The DCU Bachelor of Science in Management of Information Technology and Information Systems is a Level 8 (on the National Framework of Qualifications), honours degree programme, which provides students with critical insight into the application of Information Technology and Information Systems to the processes of management, administration and innovation within a range of businesses and organisations. Graduates of the programme will emerge with a unique mix of skills in IT, IS and business.

Students learn how to use techniques from disciplines such as business, mathematics, computer science, statistics and management science to solve real world problems. There is also a firm emphasis on interpersonal skills such as verbal communication, interviewing, teamwork and report writing.

Engineering discipline are manufacturing technology and design for manufacture combined with business and enterprise management. In this course, you’ll acquire the right mix of technical, managerial and communication skills that will equip you for a wide range of careers in a broad spectrum of industries. 

The Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering is a three year level 7 programme. Graduates are trained in the core areas of mechatronics, robotics, production plant, power systems, engineering design, manufacturing technology, operations and quality management.

A manufacturing engineer facilitates efficient operations within the production area, to optimise existing processes, implement new processes and to ensure that production goals are met. This involves the monitoring of the performance of equipment, machines and tools and correct equipment problems. A manufacturing engineer analyses and solves problems using basic engineering principles leading to new or improved products. It also involves the application of project management methodologies to manage production and product design.

Those that successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering degree from MTU.

On completion of this three year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified manufacturing engineer, with a QQI Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering.

You may then choose to work as a manufacturing engineer in the manufacturing industry across sectors such as Pharma, Med-tech, engineering and food.

This is a three year, Level 7 Apprenticeship, with 70% of time spent in the workplace, and 30% in TUS. This course will suits individuals who are existing Production Operators/Technicians who want to train or retrain in the engineering and manufacturing sectors, and progress to a level 7 qualification.

Please note that you must already be employed in a Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship contract before you can apply for the Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship.

This programme will deliver high quality manufacturing engineering graduates to support the local, national, and international manufacturing and service industries. It will provide the opportunity for prospective students to gain transferable knowledge and skills in order to develop rewarding and progressive careers.

This Manufacturing Operations runs twice a year. The programme was developed in consultation with the Life Sciences Industry, to give learners the knowledge and skill required by industry. After graduating, learners are qualified to seek work as Process Operator/Technician in Cork’s booming Life Sciences sector.

A manufacturing technician provides technical support for manufacturing operations including troubleshooting equipment and process issues, and validation and qualification activities of the manufacturing site. It will be necessary to work with production, operations,engineering support, quality, facilities, and safety to ensure that the engineering activities are completed as per defined project schedule. The job also involves coordinating corrective maintenance activities for production equipment within the manufacturing site.

Those that successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Level 6 Higher Certificate from MTU.
