Coastal Guiding, is aimed at people who are passionate about their environment and exploring its coastal landscape, heritage, culture and ecology with an enthusiasm for getting outdoors and sharing this with others.

As part of the course, students visit heritage, cultural, ecological and archeological sites in other parts of County Mayo and beyond for field trips, training and guiding opportunities.

This Course meets the criteria to be included in the Fáilte Ireland Industry Qualified Tour Guide Directory and the Regional Tour Guide Badge (yellow) is issued to you on successful completion of the course.

This advanced course builds on Basic and Intermediate Welding, focusing on the skills and certification needed to become a Coded Pipe Welder, a highly sought-after trade in the industry.

Experienced students on this course will develop further skills, knowledge and competency to complete a range of welding tasks (see full list of module) to industry standards and in line with Health and Safety requirements.

College foundation allows students to explore career opportunities and consider all their educational options. It is a gateway to college life which enables students to pursue their interests and develop their abilities.

On completion of College Foundation, students have the opportunity to progress onto level 4 and level 5 specific skills courses within the college, Further Education, or the workplace. The course allows you to work in small groups with individual attention – you work to your own plan.

Commerce is a very flexible programme that covers all business areas before a student chooses a specialism in final year in one of the following: Accounting & Performance Measurement, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Digital Business & Analytics, Finance, Business Law, International Business, Enterprise.

This four-year programme is designed to help students gain the theoretical and practical skills required for the employment market in business. students will have opportunities to interact with businesses and learn in real workplace scenarios and students also have the option to benefit from experiencing college life in other countries through the Study Abroad Programme. 

Commerce with Gaeilge allows students to further their language skills, study in the Gaeltacht for a semester, undertake work experience and learn about all aspects of business. It is the students who want to build a career in business while also further their knowledge of the Irish language.  

All business subjects are taught through English.  In third year students will spend one semester on work placement in an Irish language medium company or organisation. In year three students will study in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge at NUI Galway's campus in An Cheathrú Rua.

The BComm (Accounting) degree at University of Galway combines a broad-based business education with the advantage of a specialized programme for those interested in a career in accounting or a related discipline. Students on the programme particularly like the small class size, which really helps them to settle in. This programme offers significant exemptions from professional accounting examinations.

The BComm in International Hotel Management at Shannon College incorporates a full Commerce Degree with an emphasis on hospitality, tourism and the development of communication and leadership skills. Students have the opportunity to study on two universities campuses and experience 21 months of paid international work placement as part of this exciting degree programme.  

Commerce International (BCIT) combines a flexible business education from Ireland’s leading business school with the linguistic skills and cultural understanding to succeed in the exciting world of international business. Students of the BCIT course are well-grounded in the theory and practice of business management and equipped to understand and comment critically on business issues.

To achieve a truly global perspective on business, it is necessary to immerse yourself in the culture and not just learn the vocabulary. As part of the course, BCIT students will also take a range of literature and culture modules from the UCD School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics.

Some examples of modules currently on offer include French New Wave Cinema, Surrealism in Spain and Mexico, Grimm’s Tales, Italian Cinema and Society. 

The overall aim of the programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and under supervision providing business services and support in a range of business contexts and or to progress to further and or higher-level studies.

This four-year course has been designed for guitarists, bass players, drummers, vocalists, songwriters, music producers and those running commercial music projects who want to gain a Level 8 qualification in modern music, while at the same time fulfilling their creative and commercial potential.

It will encourage you to hone your live performance skills and recording studio technical knowledge while also developing your career goals, which may include being a professional performer, professional songwriter or producer, music manager or publisher, academic researcher or teacher.

Led by the Irish Hotels Federation, this two-year apprenticeship combines practical on-the-job training (3–4 days per week) with academic off-the-job learning (1–2 days per week). Coordinated by Kerry ETB, the program is delivered across multiple ETB locations nationwide, including Dublin, Cork, and Galway. It offers a structured pathway for aspiring professionals to gain industry-recognized qualifications while working directly within the hospitality sector.

The Commis Chef Apprenticeship is the starting point for a career as a professional chef. It’s a formal structured two year education and training programme incorporating periods of off-the job knowledge and skills development in a college or centre and work-based knowledge and skills development in an approved hotel or restaurant kitchen.

During this time, apprentices will develop the underpinning theory, science and culinary skills in a college or centre and refine and perfect these competencies to a professional standard while working under the direction of qualified and experienced chefs in the kitchens of SOLAS approved hotels and restaurants.
