Pre-University Sports Science introduces students to the broad and expanding area of Sport and Exercise Science. This challenging course provides students with the skills, knowledge and qualifications necessary to continue into higher education as well as lay the foundations for employment in the fitness and leisure industry.

It is important for prospective students to know that it is a theory-based course with some elements of practical, mainly preparing students for progression to university.

Sports Science and Health is the scientific study of physiology and exercise science in relation to the ability of the human body to adapt to motion, movement, physical activity and health changes. This course covers a broad range of disciplines, focusing on the medical aspects of physical activity, and the general concepts of physiology, medical science, nutrition, health, and related training.

You’ll gain a thorough understanding of the identification, treatment and prevention of injuries that happen during everyday life, illness, physical activity, athletic training, and sporting events.

This degree combines areas such as performance testing, nutrition, physiology, strength and conditioning and biomechanics. Over the course of four years, students will learn the underpinnings and applied disciplines of sports science, positioning graduates as a sports scientist who can pursue further study or work in practice with individual athletes, sports teams and general community and clinical groups to enhance participation, performance and health in sport.

This course aims to provide students with the skill and knowledge necessary for employment in the Sports and Leisure industry. It consists of both practical and theoretical training in various aspects of Sports Studies and Body massage. It will provide the student with the knowledge to progress into other specialties in the sport and recreation/sports injury industries.

This BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy, gives you the opportunity to qualify and work as a professional sports therapist with the option to progress to a master’s in Physiotherapy and become a qualified physiotherapist.

This course aims to provide learners with the skill necessary to work in the sports and recreation/sports therapy industries. Sports therapists provide a valuable service to the sports industry, specialising in the prevention and management of soft tissue injuries through manual massage techniques and electrical treatments. This course will also provide learners with the theoretical and practical knowledge to work in the fitness industry or to study at a higher level.

Throughout the year, students will develop specific skills in the area of advanced sports mas­sage techniques, learn to evalu­ate sports massage treatments and work with clients to carry out consultations and assess­ments and produce individual treatment plans. Other areas where students will gain valuable knowledge are in the areas of client care, health, communica­tions, safety and hygiene, all of which are essential for success in the sports massage therapy & Healthcare industry.

This programme is orientated towards the requirements of the growing sports and leisure industry with particular emphasis on coaching and fitness. It provides theoretical modules for learners interested in pursuing a career in the ever-evolving sports sector. Learners on this programme also have the opportunity to coach in local primary schools.

This course will provide an initial look into the world of Fitness Instruction, Sports management and Sports Education. Learners will be prepared for work in Sports Complexes, Leisure Centres, Health Clubs and Fitness Training through an integrated syllabus involving the theoretical knowledge of physical fitness and exercise, practical participation, administration and management techniques and various coaching skills. Learners will have the opportunity to acquire a range of skills which will prepare them for a career in coaching, fitness instruction and sports related fields. Learners will also be placed in a working environment as well as going on trips to different facilities within the Leisure Industry.

There are opportunities for our sports students to travel abroad with our Erasmus programme.

The aim of this progarmme is to equip students with a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to progress to further training in several areas including the Health Sciences, Rehabilitation, Health Nutrition and Sports and Exercise Science in a range of higher certificate and degree programmes.

The National Sportsturf Management Apprenticeship is for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the sportsturf sector or existing personnel employed in a sportsturf facility that would like to gain a recognised qualification.

This three-year-long honours degree course is perfect for students who are interested in a career backstage and enjoy a practice-based learning environment.

The course prepares students for many career paths including: Stage Management, Lighting Technology, Costume, Sound Technology, Prop Making, Set Construction, Scenic Art, Film & Production Management.
