The BSc Hons Accounting and Law is a four-year programme with an equal weighting of accounting and law based modules covered each year. It also has an option of an intercalary/placement year after Year 3.

The overall aim of the degree is to:

• develop students’ core knowledge and understanding of the principles, issues and applications of accounting and law and of the broader financial and economic environment;
• enable the development of intellectual skills including critical, analytical and problem-solving skills relevant to law, business finance and investment decision-making;
• highlight the relevance of legal knowledge to the needs of the community whether at a local, regional, national, European or international level;
• support the development of a range of subject-specific and generic transferable skills;
• develop students' ability to analyse, interpret and communicate legal and financial information;
• develop students' interpersonal, research, computing and communication skills.

Studying business at the Magee campus provides students with extensive choice. In this case Accounting may be taken as an equal main subject, with Marketing as the other equal main subject.

The flexible structure of this programme affords students the opportunity of choosing a pathway to suit their own personal interests and career aspirations. Graduates will have generic skills in particular management functions and specific skills in accounting and marketing. The accounting/marketing main/main combination is particularly suited for graduates wishing to go on to develop a career in business where these named disciplines are desirable.

The programme equips graduates for a management career in industry, commerce or the public sector. It also provides the entrepreneurial and innovation skills necessary for the creation of new business ventures and to stimulate the competitive impetus for managing and developing existing businesses. The accounting/marketing main/main subjects help develop supporting expertise of particular interest to the student.

This course is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing a career in Accounting Finance. Learners are taught key accounting concepts, principles of accounting and the knowledge and skills required to understand personal and business taxation regulations. They will gain an understanding of core business functionsin management, marketing and law. Learners are schooled in the modern accounting practices, which qualifies them as professional Accounting Technicians.

Apprentices graduate with an industry-recognised Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Accounting, and tuition is funded by the state agency SOLAS. Graduating enables you to join the professional Member network (ATI) and use of the designatory letters MIATI.

The duration of this programme is two years from programme commencement date. You should be able to commit to completing the programme syllabus while working in full-time employment over the two years.

For the Accounting Technician Apprenticeship Programme an apprentice will be attending (off-the-job training) at college one day and working with an employer four days during college term time (on the job training) on a weekly basis. Outside of college term an apprentice will attend work five days a week.

The (off-the-job training) day is set by the college but usually will be a Monday or Tuesday from 9:00am to 6.00pm and an employer will allocate appropriate work hours for the four days (on-the-job training) not exceeding the 37.5 hours per week (on and off the job training) required to be completed by the apprentice for the programme and their employment contract.

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to work in the Accountancy or Financial Services sector. Places are awarded via a competitive interview process, where applicants who meet the Enhanced Eligibility Criteria (see below) are put forward to participating employers for consideration. If you are successful at interview stage, your new employer will issue you with a two-year contract and you start your apprenticeship in September of each year.

You will work four days a week in an office environment, and study one day a week at Rathmines College.

Qualify as an Accounting Technician with this two-year work-based education training programme. In this fully-funded programme, leaners study with a college whilst gaining significant experience working with an employer and earning a salary.

Apprentices will work at their employer’s office four days a week and attend classes at Blackrock Further Education Institute (BFEI), located in Blackrock village, Co.Dublin one day a week.

Accounting Technicians Ireland is the leading professional body for Accounting Technicians on the Island of Ireland. With offices in Dublin and Belfast, and strong links with other professional bodies such as Chartered Accountants Ireland, the organisation supplies high-calibre Accounting Technician graduates to industry, practice and the public sector. Many progress to the highest levels in their field.

Accounting Technicians Ireland launched the first Apprenticeship Council-approved Accountancy Apprenticeship in the Republic of Ireland in September 2016. The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship aims to provide young school-leavers and employees with a fast-track path to a career in accounting, which blends solid work experience with quality academic tuition.

Apprentices graduate as fully qualified Accounting Technicians, with the opportunity to progress to Level 9 studies with Chartered Accountants Ireland after just two years.

This full time course covers the First Year syllabus from Accounting Technicians Ireland. The syllabus has been carefully designed to equip students with an array of transferable business skills, as well as technical knowledge of finance and accountancy practice.

The programme provides students with expertise, experience and knowledge in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.
