Interior architecture involves the design of interiors of buildings, their layout and space planning, fitting, technical and structural resolution, furnishing and decoration, and the preparation of all technical drawings and written documentation necessary for the carrying out of the work.

The design work of interior architecture includes domestic, commercial, leisure, retail, educational, healthcare and cultural interior projects. Interior architectural design encompasses many types of interiors and utilises accompanying skills. 

This course examines contemporary practice in interior architecture and teaches you about our architectural heritage, how buildings work, and how to create high quality spatial experiences. It involves the design of interiors of buildings, their layout, fitting, furnishing and decoration, and the preparation of all technical drawings and written documentation necessary for the carrying out of the work.

This full-time, industry-focused degree blends interior design with architectural principles, equipping you with in-demand skills in spatial planning, adaptive reuse, sustainability, architectural technologies, practice & project management, BIM, advanced rendering, and creative problem-solving, all within three years.

The BA in Interior Architecture & Design is a three-year level 7 degree course that can be taken as either a full-time or an evening access programme. This course guides students from initiation through to successful completion, producing an Interior Design graduate who can create, design, problem-solve, and act professionally in all related working environments.

Successful Interior Design graduates are industry-ready and creatively and technically proficient to propose innovative solutions and problem-solving expertise within the built environment.

Interior Architecture and Design is a profession that explores new ways to create inspiring interior environments within the built environment, promoting sustainability through creative re-use of space. The Interior Architecture and Design (Year Two) program at Dublin College Blackrock is an advanced qualification designed for those who already possess a foundation in design or architecture. This second year shifts the focus from residential basics to the complexities of commercial and spatial design. It is a professional-level course that pushes students to move beyond decoration and toward structural and conceptual innovation. By the end of the program, students will have transitioned from learners to junior designers, capable of delivering professional-grade presentations and technical drawings that meet industry standards.

This one-year QQI Level 5 full time course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to complete a portfolio of interior design based project work - as well as acquiring a comprehensive skills-base in interior design. This programme is suitable for those who wish to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of Interior Design, perhaps with the intention of progressing to a higher-level programme.

This one-year QQI Level 5 course provides learners with the essential skills to plan and execute both residential and commercial interior design projects. The curriculum balances artistic exploration with technical training, helping students build creative confidence while mastering the technical skills and specification knowledge needed to pitch ideas professionally to clients and colleagues. Additionally, the course integrates core entrepreneurial and marketing strategies to teach students how to successfully establish a business and market themselves as independent designers. On successful completion, graduates are equipped to enter the industry directly or progress to higher education programs in Interior Design, Product Design, and Architecture.

Interior design is the process of shaping the experience of interior space, through the manipulation of special volume as well as surface treatment. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to work effectively in the area of Interior Design. The course aims to develop technician level skills in Interior Design and provides learners with the key skills to undertake residential and commercial interior design projects. This course offers a broad training relevant to employment in a large number of areas that require knowledge, awareness and skills in the design and furnishing of interior spaces.

This one-year Interior Design course is perfect for anyone interested in pursuing a career in Interior Design, advancing to a Degree, or simply wanting to explore the creative process and skills involved in the field. It will introduce you to all the essential elements of designing beautiful, functional spaces. You’ll learn to refine your talents and transform a house into a home. Develop key drawing, design and digital skills over the course of this year. The course is designed to equip you with the necessary training and skills to create stylish, comfortable, and on-trend interiors. This course is ideal for school leavers and those considering a career change. This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

This studio-based programme consists of modules that are primarily assessed through design projects, coursework and assignments.

Programme content is concerned with the study of interiors through analysis, research and intervention. Through understanding the needs of the client, respecting the existing situation, and researching the specialised area, it allows the student to respond with relevant, innovative and creative solutions.

The programme uses the design project as the central vehicle for learning and aims to stimulate and provoke imaginative responses to the reuse of interior spaces. Projects address domestic, commercial, hospitality, community, social and user-specific interior briefs.

The BA (Hons) in Interior Design is a 4-year course. It has a common first semester, after which students also have the opportunity to switch to another design programme if they wish (subject to available places).

Topics on the programme include Photography, Digital Media, Design History & Theory, Creative Problem Solving, Business & Entrepreneurial skills and an Ethical and Sustainable Design ethos. Interior Design Students will learn about the design of interior spaces, 3D model making, building regulations, ergonomics and human centred design, textile and surface design, interior design - surfaces, materials and finishes, interior design - integrated interior design project, and building information modelling.

The Interior Design Portfolio course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh provides a comprehensive introduction to the diverse world of 3D design, encompassing domestic and commercial interiors, furniture, lighting, and visual merchandising. Based in the creative hub of the Raheny Campus, the program emphasizes practical experience through live projects, industry-led workshops, and prestigious design competitions. Students benefit from an exceptionally high level of tutor contact time and access to industry-standard software and professional-grade printing facilities. 

The programme focuses on the international aspects of business, especially the challenges of operating in the dynamic global environment. This is achieved by combining a mix of theory, practice and work experience. Lectures are interactive environments where students are encouraged to exchange ideas and opinions. There is a strong emphasis on developing the student’s personal skills such as public speaking and debating.

The four year programme is awarded under the institution’s American accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The degree consists of general education modules in year one. In years two, three and four the degree focuses on international business. Like all of the institution’s degrees, there is a strong emphasis on a mix of theory, practice and work experience. Lectures are interactive environments where students are encouraged to exchange ideas and opinions. There is a strong emphasis on developing the student’s personal skills such as public speaking and debating. This is supported by the culturally diverse learning environment at the institution with a student body drawn from over thirty countries. On completion of the fourth year students gain invaluable work experience by undertake an eight-week internship in a multinational firm.

Students have a wide range of opportunities open to them when they complete their degree. Graduates can enter the college’s Master of Business in International Business or the MBA in International Business or alternatively enter master’s, doctoral or professional studies in other institutions.
