The QQI Level 5 Certificate in Aviation Finance offers an opportunity for those wishing to develop their skills in the Aviation Leasing Sector. This course will have an emphasis on aircraft and airline finance and leasing. The Certificate in Aviation Finance will give learners the opportunity to learn new skills with an emphasis on the acquisition and financing of aircraft as well as developing an understanding of the sector. Successful graduates have progressed on to Aviation Management with Finance in DCU (DC 117).

This course will prepare you for a career in the aviation industry. You’ll learn about the principles of flight, the information systems integral to aviation/aircraft operations, and the complex inter-relationships in the various sub-sectors of the industry. 

The main focus of the BA year is a Major Project. Three of the five modules feed into what is essentially a practical Thesis project. It is self-directed work, chosen by the student according to his/her interests and strengths. It is planned, researched, developed and produced with the guidance of tutors who are industry professionals. The students are encouraged to specialise in an animation related discipline of their choice. The college has facilities and software to support these major projects. Other modules include Employability in the Creative Industries, and Professional Animation project: this is a project with an outside client.

Practically and creatively led, our Level 8, one-year Top-Up BA in Film & Television Production is delivered in conjunction with and accredited by the University of Wolverhampton (UK). An intensive industry-led programme, the course is taught by academic tutors and industry professionals and is also supported by guest lectures from leaders in the various fields within the Irish Film and Television industry.

Students benefit from the expertise of film directors, producers and professional crew in the areas of development, camera and sound, documentary and factual production, editing, sound design, production management and production design amongst others, as well as a connection to Irish Film and TV industry bodies and organisations.

We have engaged with the Film & TV sector to ensure that course content reflects industry requirements and modules are designed to replicate real-world conditions. There are six modules on the programme, four of which focus on learners leading and collaborating in the production of two short films (live-action and documentary) from screenplay/proposal to the screen, in a creative and professional way. While developing industry standard technical skills, learners also develop digital skills, management and leadership skills. The remaining 2 modules are an employability and a content analysis module, which develops critical and innovative thinking.

We have made connections with production and post-production companies to provide students with the opportunity of work placements on set or location of large-scale film and TV productions shooting in Ireland and in the post-production environment.

The B.A. in Applied Policing is the Foundation Programme for Garda Trainees. This Training Programme is delivered over 104 weeks leading to a B.A. in Applied Policing. The initial period of 34 weeks including two weeks annual leave takes place at The Garda College. Subsequent training takes place predominantly in selected Garda Divisions.

The DCU Bachelor of Arts Single Module (BASM) study option allows student to undertake study at degree level (level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications) for personal enjoyment or continual professional development (CPD) without having to commit to study towards an exit award.

Of specific interest to many Bachelor of Arts Single Module (BASM) students is that the History, Literature and Sociology modules are recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland for general registration in relation to the (post-primary level) teaching of History, English and CSPE respectively.

This Barbering course offers detailed skills training in all aspects of barbering and men’s hair grooming. You’ll learn practical skills and the underpinning theory and science to prepare you for a career in this occupational area, including cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair and shaving, and the essential underpinning knowledge.

Barbering offers many employment opportunities, and our course leads to an internationally-recognised qualification. You will have opportunities to develop your skills and build a portfolio of work that will help you to progress to employment.

This programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and competence to use barbering techniques within a salon/barber environment. You will acquire a range of barbering skills to include the use of tools such as clippers, scissors, razors, and combs. In addition to haircuts, you will be equipped to provide services like scalp massages, and eyebrow shaping, focusing on enhancing clients’ appearance and personal grooming. This course provides you with the skills required if you intend to run your own barbering business in the future.

Fishing Vessel (Basic Safety Training) Regulations, 2001 (S.I. 587 of 2001) require all fishing vessel crew members to undergo Basic Safety Training. This three day programme is run at all of BIM’s training centres and consists of the following:

STCW-PST Personal Survival Techniques
STCW-EFA Elementary First Aid
SKL–FPSA Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness (BIM non-certified course given in addition by BIM)

Students on this course will develop further skills, knowledge and competency to complete a range of basic welding tasks to industry standards and in line with Health and Safety requirements.

The BCL degree focuses on experiential learning and developing practical legal skills while also providing you with opportunities to engage with industry and the wider legal profession. In particular, the Moot Court module gives you the chance to practise your court-room skills and gain a real insight into law in action. DCU has its own Moot Court room which is where you will participate in mock trials and practise skills such as advocacy, presenting evidence or cross examination.
