Our biological science degree in Veterinary Bioscience has a major focus on animal health, disease and diagnostics. This course will educate you to the best international standards in veterinary medicine and is accredited nationally by the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI), by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and is one of only 6 veterinary schools in Europe currently accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The veterinary profession is concerned with the promotion of the health and welfare of animals of special importance to society. This involves the care of healthy and sick animals, the prevention, recognition, control and treatment of their diseases and of diseases transmitted from animals to man, and the welfare and productivity of livestock.

This five-year programme will consist of three phases: foundation, clinical and professional. The foundation and clinical phases, will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the relevant, underpinning scientific and clinical concepts and related industry context via a Scaffolded Active Learning style curriculum, to motivate students to learn in an active, collaborative manner. The final professional phase of the MVB programme employs a fully distributed model of clinical education.

The course is organised over four years. In first year, students will build on their knowledge of the basic biological sciences. You will take modules which demonstrate how this knowledge is applied in the practice of veterinary medicine, and gain a firm grounding in animal welfare, behaviour and handling. A key objective will be to ensure that you have the required knowledge, skills and competencies to progress to second year. Between second and fourth year, you’ll take combined modules with students taking the DN300 degree in Veterinary Medicine. 

This programme is designed to produce highly skilled, confident, and well-rounded veterinary graduates equipped to work effectively in Irish veterinary practice where they will play an essential role in safeguarding animal health, public health, and safeguarding Ireland’s food-producing economy.

5 years leading to Bachelor of VMS at Level 9.

This course is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to make a significant contribution to animal health and welfare. Students will get to experience a wide range of areas, including anatomy and physiology of domestic animals, fluid therapy, medical and surgical nursing care, laboratory testing, veterinary diagnostics and therapeutics, office management and client communication. All relevant practical competencies will be covered in relation to dogs, cats, horses, farm animals and exotic species.

The degree provides the graduate with not only a sound academic foundation but also the practical skills and competencies with which to build a solid career as a professional veterinary nurse. Students receive a high-quality education through lectures, tutorials and practical classes, as well as off-site work experience. The curriculum reflects the demands on the Irish veterinary nurse in practice by incorporating teaching on small animal (including exotics), farm animal and equine nursing.  

The Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing in the Kerry Campus of MTU will prepare learners to become a competent and accountable veterinary nurse. This programme has a strong educational basis, integrated with professional skills to equip graduates for a career in the field of Veterinary Nursing.

The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing degree encompasses a comprehensive educational journey designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for a fulfilling career in veterinary nursing. Our Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing is a three-year course that will prepare you for a career in the veterinary field. You’ll be qualified to work closely with veterinary surgeons in diagnosing and treating animals suffering from a range of medical issues.

The undergraduate Visual Art programme at SETU Waterford offers students the opportunity to work broadly and experimental across a wide range of fine art media and practices, these include; drawing, painting, sculpture, print-making, photography, performance, video and digital media.

If you have a desire to combine your artistic flare with digital skills then this is the course for you.

Students are introduced to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. No previous computer skills are required.

This course can be used as a portfolio preparation course of both traditional art and digital art. This can help students prepare a portfolio to apply for third level courses.

Visual Communication is the art of problem- solving and communication through the use of type, space, and image. It presents the idea that a graphic message has the power to inform, educate, or persuade a person or audience. It can be presented as a still image, or motion graphics, including sound, and in some cases, interactive activity.

You will produce artwork for print, interface design, motion graphics, illustration, photography, typography, packaging, branding, advertising campaigns and much more!

The three-year course is designed to facilitate a transition from novice student to creative practitioner. Students are taught a variety of design and pratical skills to achieve this.

This highly practical course features a studio environment where students complete projects in a variety of 2D design disciplines, such as: branding; illustration; packaging; typography; advertising; layout; signage; websites; mobile devices; games; moving image video and animation.

Visual Communication and Design is a problem-solving practice that uses image, text, print and screen to communicate messages. This discipline originates from graphic design and now incorporates the traditional skills of drawing, printing, photography, typography and other graphic processes with the new digital realms of video, web and animation.
