Biotechnology is the application of biology for the benefit of humanity and the environment. It harnesses living organisms to provide foods and medicines, and for tasks such as cleaning toxic waste or detecting harmful substances. Biotechnology has roots in food and agriculture, using yeast to make beer and bread, and lactic acid bacteria to make cheese.

Modern technologies such as genetic engineering make biotechnology a major part of Ireland’s economic future in biopharmaceuticals, biomedicine, agriculture, the food industry and the environment.

Biotechnology is a dynamic and evolving area with many opportunities and challenges, which is making significant contributions to the ‘smart economy’ in areas such as healthcare, agri- business, the food industry and the environment. As a scientific discipline Biotechnology is a blend of Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Nanotechnology, with a strong component of Computer Technology - all of these disciplines are explored as part of this programme.

The aim of this 4-year level 8 ab initio programme is to provide graduates with an Honours degree in Biotechnology with an emphasis on Biopharmaceutical Science.

It meets the growing demand of the Life Sciences and Biopharmaceutical sectors for highly skilled graduates with specialist training in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biomolecular Techniques, Mammalian Cell Culture, Bioanalysis, Bioprocessing, Quality Management and Data Analytics.

This programme is designed for students who have a keen interest in Biology and who wish to pursue successful careers in the Life Sciences and in particular the Biotechnology and Biopharmaceutical industries.

Bioveterinary science is dedicated to the investigation of life processes and exploring the inter-relationships of living organisms. This degree emphasizes specific technologies, interactions and/or systems (e.g. animal behaviour, biochemistry, biotechnology), or the environments that living organisms inhabit (e.g. ecology, environmental biology). 

This course will equip you with the knowledge, skills and competence to produce and maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a range of organisations, using manual and computerised systems

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and competencies to operate both a manual book-keeping system from source documents up to trial balance and also to use a computerised accounts system.

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the opportunity to further their skills from those learned in the Level 5 course.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to record, edit, interpret, analyse and process payroll data using manual and computerised systems within an organisation.

Successful malting, brewing and distilling requires the application of both scientific and engineering principles. This four-year course, which is the first undergraduate malting, brewing and distilling degree in Ireland, equips students with the necessary scientific knowledge and instrumentation competencies to work in the malting, brewing and distilling industry.

Combined with modules in product development, marketing and regulatory affairs, graduates will be ideally qualified to work in these expanding industries.

On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified brick and stonelayer, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Brick and Stonelaying.

Brick and stonelayers go on to be employed in the building industry, working on new buildings, restorations, and extensions.

Many craftspersons use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.

This one year course aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop essential knowledge and practical skills to work in the rapidly growing construction and renewable energy industries. It gives students a taste of all the main construction trades including Carpentry & Joinery, Building, Plumbing and Electrical. Students will also gain significant on site experience with some of the largest construction companies in the area. The course also provides progression opportunities into Further and Higher Education.

This programme will be delivered using a hybrid approach which is a learner-centred process involving digital, printed, live and recorded class activities using SETU's virtual learning environment Blackboard collaborate. The structured manner will facilitate students in their learning process to reach programme and module learning objectives. Learners will also be required to complete project work in order to achieve certification. Attendance at each of the modules is mandatory.

Building Engineers are responsible for designing the engineering systems in buildings. These systems consume almost half of all the energy we use today. Building Engineers together with architects design energy efficient and environmentally-friendly buildings.

Building engineers are at the heart of the building design process. They design, develop, install and implement the mechanical and electrical systems that ensure our buildings are safe, sustainable, comfortable, efficient and effective.

A common entry BEng in Building Engineering (with award title of BEng in Building Engineering with Renewable Energy or BEng in Fire Safety Engineering). At the end of Stage 1, learners choose either the Building Engineering with Renewable Energy or Fire Safety Engineering pathway, having had the opportunity to decide which best suits their interests, skills and ability.

This part-time online evening course is ideal for construction industry employees to upskill in Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and software using Autodesk® Revit® and associated packages. The course is mostly funded under the SOLAS Skills to Advance programme, meaning the participants need only pay 30% of the course fee themselves.

This unique course allows students to gain the skills required to start them on the path to becoming a chartered surveyor, as recognised by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI). This course prepares students for entry into building surveying practice, and for providing a professional building surveying service. 

Students will develop the skills required to support the building surveying industry, including evaluating the design, specifications, and performance of buildings. The topics used to build this expertise include; BIM, CAD, Building Refurbishment, Materials Performance and Building Surveys.

Building surveyors are concerned with the provision of expert advice on all aspects of design, construction, maintenance and repair of buildings and the conservation of the built heritage. Much of their work involves the assessment of the condition of buildings and specifying remedial work to be undertaken.

The degree programme in Building Surveying provides the specialist knowledge and skills necessary to enter the Building Surveying profession at graduate level with a view to completing the Assessment of Professional Competence to gain professional membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Course content is aimed at providing an understanding of the roles and purposes of building surveying and its relationship with other disciplines within the industry. In addition to core areas of technology, maintenance management and building conservation, professional practice skills are further developed through integrated project work in all years of the programme.

This is a one-year common entry course to the honours degree courses in the Built Environment. Successful completion of this Common Entry Year will entitle the student to progress into Year 2 of the following courses, subject to availability of places:

• BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying
• BSc (Hons) in Construction Management
• BSc (Hons) in Property Valuation and Management*

This is a one year common entry stage to the honours degree programmes in the Built Environment. Successful completion of this Common Entry Year leads to admission to Stage 2 of the following programmes, subject to availability of places:

• BSc(Hons) in Construction Management;
• B.Sc. (Hons) in Civil Engineering Management
