This course is designed to enhance students awareness and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse. This one-year Nursing Studies course will introduce you to practical experience in healthcare clinical settings which, combined with an insight into theories relating to the nursing profession, will enable them to deliver high standards of care. The purpose of this programme is to prepare the student for all aspects of nursing. Nursing Studies is a one-year course for students wishing to train as Nurses both here in Ireland and in the UK. This one-year full time NFQ course is an introduction to those who wish to progress on to paramedics, either in the Fire or Ambulance Services. This course will improve the chances of recruitment in either the Fire, Ambulance Service, Nursing or Healthcare. Learners will gain essential knowledge and skills in areas relevant to these careers. This course is also suitable for adults seeking qualifications to return to the workforce. The course design is vocational in nature.

This intensive one-year program serves as a dual-purpose gateway for students aspiring to enter the nursing profession or work as Healthcare Assistants. The curriculum is led by clinical nurse practitioners, ensuring that nursing theory and practice are grounded in real-world expertise. Students train in a specialized nursing suite—modeled after a hospital room in St. James’s Hospital—using industry-standard equipment such as manual and ceiling hoists, hospital beds, and wheelchairs.

A Nursing Studies QQI Level 5 course serves as a foundation step towards pursuing a career in nursing. It provides students with essential knowledge, skills and competencies needed to enter nursing education programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
