The Joint Honours Programme in Anthropology and International Relations provides students with an in-depth, interdisciplinary understanding of contemporary cultures and politics, international affairs, societies, and conflict situations in their political, historical, social, cultural, economic and legal dimensions.

In Anthropology, you will explore what it means to be human, learn about human cultural diversity, compare societies and cultures from around the world and understand how conflict arises and how resolutions are found.

The programme is designed to provide students with an intellectual training in the disciplines of Philosophy and Anthropology which, while discrete subjects, are complementary and mutually enriching.  The combination of Philosophy and Anthropology allows for the development of an in-depth appreciation of the ideas that help to explain the foundations of the current world, human behaviour, and thinking across and beyond cultural difference.

This degree programme provides students with an education in two key closely related disciplines, anthropology and sociology. Social anthropology is the study of the social life of humankind and how this varies across different human cultures and societies past and present. Sociology developed as the scientific study of human society with a focus on social structure, social reproduction and social change and on how groups and individuals are influenced by norms, roles, and institutions.

Students studying Anthropology and Spanish gain an understanding of socio-cultural differences and similarities and how they arise, are transmitted and develop. You acquire knowledge and understanding of the inter-relationship between texts and contexts, a familiarity with debates surrounding culture and identity, both individual and communal, and skills in synthesising and developing ideas and arguments from diverse literary and other contemporary sources.

This course is grounded in the principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion and social justice. Graduates of this course will be furnished with the requisite knowledge and skills to work in and meaningfully engage communities affected by addiction, to support voluntary activity and to progress community projects.

The aim of this blended online certificate programme is to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of learners in the theory and practice of applied addiction studies and community development.

The purpose of the programme is to build the capacity of community drugs workers and those working and volunteering in the wider community within an addiction context.

This programme allows you an opportunity to study the key areas in Applied Biology including Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Biotechnology, Genetics, Bio-forensics, and Healthcare. 

The food and drink industry in Ireland is a very important indigenous industry, providing interesting and well paid employment. Consumers require attractive, convenient and safe food products that also offer health promoting benefits and skilled scientists are required to manufacture and develop these products.

Skills and knowledge in areas such as science and technology, food safety and nutrition are the focus of this course. Throughout the course you will gain insights into the manufacture and the nutritional content of current food products, and how to develop new exciting innovative products.

This programme extends and develops the depth of understanding, competence and awareness of students in the main areas of analytical science, biochemical and microbiological analysis and quality management. It encompasses new and developing technologies such as biotechnology, genetic engineering and biopharmaceutical science. Applied Biosciences is the study of complex biological systems, and how they work, for example how bacteria generate energy from the breakdown of sugars. Applied Biosciences also involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and agriculture – in other words, the application of scientific and technical advances in the life sciences to develop commercial products.

This level 8 programme is designed to give the graduate experience with a wide range of modern computing skills. Students will learn cutting edge programming techniques, data analytics, UX design, web architecture plus many other skills. Students can practice honing core computational and problem solving skills needed for any 21st Century technology driven society, in a vibrant and modern campus. 

This exciting new course is designed to examine the impact of issues such as climate change and global habitat degradation, with a view to providing a grounding in future-proof, sustainable environmental practices. You will acquire a broad base of knowledge in ecological sustainability, conservation and biodiversity, including theoretical concepts and best practices relating to ecosystems. You will learn:

• How to collect data when monitoring and maintaining ecosystems,
• How to examine plant and animal characteristics in the environment
• How to measure and report on land and water pollution
• How environmentally-sound landscape management can alleviate the issues associated with modern urban and rural development.

Successful completion of this course will result in a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Applied Ecology

Rooted in the enterprise-centric practice required to meaningfully adopt these technologies in real businesses, this course sits at the intersection of Computer Science, Psychology, and Enterprise.

The course adopts a use-case-centric approach, exploring AI applications in Game/XR, social media, and movies, and delves into critical themes such as the morality and nature of art, trustworthy AI, ethics, copyright, bias, diversity and inclusion, and biodiversity/ecology.

You will study a range of modules from Marine Biology research at home and abroad (e.g. Spain or Portugal) to Environmental Management and Biodiversity / Conservation. You will be studying an exciting mix of subjects including Marine Biology, studies of rivers and lakes, ecology and zoology.

Year one involves the study of a range of Science modules and year two focuses on Biology - the science of life. Biologists explore and learn how organisms are constructed and how they function. This involves the study of reproduction, growth and development and how organisms capture and use raw materials and energy. Year three covers areas such as fisheries, pollution control, the environment and aquatic biology where the main activity entails the monitoring of the aquatic environment.

You will study a range of modules from Marine Biology research at home and abroad (e.g. Spain or Portugal) to Environmental Management and Biodiversity / Conservation. This programme focuses on Freshwater and Marine Ecology. The sustainable development of renewable resources in the face of the rapidly expanding population and developing economy is a consistent theme throughout the programme. Graduates learn about the relevant ecological processes and gain an understanding of how they should be managed in a responsible and beneficial manner and the legal framework which seeks to protect them from undue exploitation. 

This course also prepares students for the emerging area of internet and telephone health care delivery. Clinical experience is an essential element of the course. Placement occurs in each year of the course, which allows the student to put theory into practice in a real health care setting.
