This course has been designed to allow students to choose their own unique path in computing specialising in Computer Programming, Web Design, Mobile App Development and Databases. The course gives students the essential skills to start a career in the computing industry with real rewards and excellent career prospects.

Computer Science (Common Entry) offers exposure to a variety of subjects relating to different areas of computing such as general programming, knowledge of computer architecture, games modelling, and an understanding of the mathematical basis that underpins computing. Our well-equipped and modern laboratories will enable you to acquire practical experience and skills with confidence. You will follow a common first-year programme of study and then select one of the three BSc programmes during the second semester. During the first year you will become well-versed in a range of computing subjects, and therefore, can make better choices that suit your particular needs and interests.

You will learn about the basics of computing/software development, and then decide which of the specialisms you think best suits your personal interests, strengths and plans. Computer Science (Infrastructure) is about developing software and infrastructure for applications ranging from those on smart devices to those in global corporations. This course provides the skills required to build data centres and networks, and to develop software securely, individually and in teams.

You’ll gain a working knowledge of the components of a computer and a network, become familiar with the components of an operating system, and learn to administrate large distributed systems.

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to work as a global software engineer or as an application developer, able to develop as needed in an ever-changing global industry.

On graduation, you’ll be qualified to work in the international IT industry in a wide range of computer roles. You’ll have a strong foundation in such areas as Internet development, cloud computing, mobile software, enterprise systems, artificial intelligence and games technology.

B.A. (Mod) in Computer Science, Linguistics and a Language. CSLL combines the study of Computer Science; a natural language, either Spanish, French or Irish; and Linguistics.

The computer science component of CSLL seeks to impart a mastery of the techniques and technologies that lie behind what you see on the screen of one of today's computers, giving you a full understanding the computer applications of today, and enabling you to participate in the development of the applications of the future.

Combining Computer Science with Economics will allow graduates to use computing tools to study economics and to apply economic theories to computational settings, such as to build virtual marketplaces.

Our long-running Computer Science and Business joint programme provides graduates with the knowledge and expertise needed to work in the technical field of Computer Science along with the business management skills required to understand the fundamentals of markets, organisations and business management.

A computer system engineer combines knowledge of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to develop, test, and evaluate software for personal computers and more. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of computer systems, embedded systems, systems programming and real-time systems, along with knowledge and understanding of modern computer architectures.

The primary focus of this course is on developing your technical and practical skills with computers and with the basics to allow you to work as part of a team in a support capacity in maintaining ICT infrastructure in an organisation. The fourth semester in year two provides students with the opportunity to get experience of a work placement and to put into practice what they have learned in the Institute.

This course is designed to introduce the learner to the fundamentals of installation, configuration and maintenance of computer systems and basic networks. It also facilitates progression in education including further and higher, education or training.

This full-time course is designed to give students the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to implement and support PC systems and networks. During the course students will build PCs and troubleshoot hardware issues. They install, optimise and troubleshoot both the Windows and Linux Operating Systems, and setup Local Area Networks.

Course participants will learn about the importance of security within the IT industry while also learning the fundamentals of Software Development and Website Design.
