History

The History programme combines the strength of a broad-based programme in the first two years, introducing all students to the sheer diversity of historical studies, with the freedom to explore areas of particular interest to individual students in the final two years. The first and second years provide a range of modules covering medieval and modern periods, including Irish, European, and American history, as well as some modules exploring the skills and methods which historians use, and the kinds of debates in which historians engage.

You will work in small groups to debate the topics that arise in lectures and to create short films and documentaries. Our students are active in many different societies, including DU Film Society and the student-run film magazine, Trinity Film Review.

Students combine this subject with their choice of French or Spanish.

If you have a creative flair and a desire to use it in the creative industries then this is the course for you. You will be introduced to a range of skills such as, how to shoot short films using a HD video camera and edit them using Adobe Premiere Pro, how to take great digital photographs using a DSLR camera with a range of lenses and how to enhance them in Adobe Photoshop.

This programme will assist enthusiastic students in developing the essential practical skills and knowledge required to work in the dynamic area of film, television, and screen production. The programme is designed to follow the full-cycle of the film production process and has direct connections with the film industry. Students will gain skills in idea generation and development, writing for the screen and visual storytelling, financing projects, cinematography, directing, producing, sound recording, on and offline editing, VFX, and sales and distribution.

The programme is composed of 80% practical modules, with the remaining 20% of the modules being theoretically focused.

This Bachelor of Arts in Film, TV and Screen Media Production programme is designed in the specialist area of screen media production. Graduates with Finance, Economics and Big Data skills are in high demand here in Ireland and overseas. This also opens up opportunities in a range of business careers including financial planning, banking, accounting, economics and management consulting. Postgraduate options include economics and finance. A highlight of the programme is the opportunity to undertake a three-to-six-month work experience placement as part of third year. Students can alternatively choose to study abroad on Erasmus. 

The aims of the degree are to produce graduates with developed mathematical, statistical and computing skills, and the ability to apply them to the quantitative analysis of industrial, commercial or financial business decisions. The programme also aims to produce graduates with sufficient mathematical, statistical and computing skills for them to undertake postgraduate work in these or related areas.

The BSc in Financial Mathematics and Economics (BSc in FME) programme is a four-year degree programme consisting of courses in mathematics, economics, statistics/probability, applied mathematics, accounting and business finance, and computer science. The programme’s aim is to equip students with expertise in quantitative subjects, with a particular focus on financial economics, actuarial mathematics and statistics.

The degree should appeal to people who enjoy mathematics and are interested in studying economics and other subjects in the financial area. (Please note that you do not have to study economics for the Leaving Certificate to be admitted to this course.)
