In this course, Students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to understand how computers work and can be used to model the physical behaviour of real world objects. This course in Computer Games Programming enables students to appreciate the programming considerations that arise with different game genres such as adventure, First Person Shooter (FPS), Role Playing Games (RPGs), strategy, fighting and sports games.

Students will play and critique a variety of games on a selection of popular platforms (e.g., X-Box, PS3, PC, etc.); use specialised game engine tools to create their own game components (levels, maps, characters, etc.); write and test their own computer games (2D and 3D), as well as develop important life skills, including effective communication techniques, teamwork and independent learning skills.

You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, laboratory practicals, mandatory work placement and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year (Continuous Assessment). This course includes an extensive e-Learning programme designed to teach students networking skills.

In this full-time one-year programme in Computer Networks with Software you will learn about the latest operating systems, computer hardware, software development and networking technologies, coupled with hands on practical experience. In addition, you will gain a strong foundation in cyber security.

Students will also have the opportunity to work with staff from the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) to participate in projects involving the real-world applications of the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and Data Analytics. This LOETB-TUS collaboration promotes problem-based learning while enabling the students to experience the creativity and innovation of a rapidly evolving sector.

This Level 5 Computer Programming course gives students an excellent grounding in computer programming. Students develop practical skills and can progress to our QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Computer Programming. The Level 6 course has an advanced second year entry links with TU Dublin Grangegorman, TU Dublin Blanchardstown and TU Dublin Tallaght, NCI, and Griffith College.

The Certificate in Computer Programming course also enables students to apply through the CAO directly to third level. This course has a high success rate in terms of students securing places in TU Dublin, NCI, Maynooth University, UCD and IADT.

The UCD Computer Science degree covers the fundamentals of Computer Science while also exposing students to the contemporary languages and technologies used in the industry. The BSc in Computer Science is a full-time four-year degree course that encompasses all aspects of computer systems (both software and hardware) and ICT (information and communication technology), including software development, database technology, computer networks, operating systems, algorithms, security, web technology and applications. 

This Level 5 Computer Science course gives student an excellent opportunity to learn computer programming.
