This one-year full-time course is designed for learners seeking to pursue a career as a healthcare assistant. The course provides students with essential knowledge and skills required to work in various healthcare settings. This course is ideal for those who wish to work as healthcare assistants, support workers, or pursue further studies in other health-related fields. The National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People require all newly recruited care staff and those in posts less than one year, to commence training to Level 5 QQI or equivalent within two years of taking up employment. 

This course provides a recognised qualification for healthcare workers, currently in employment and those seeking to work in this sector. This Healthcare Support Award is one of the Department of Health and Children’s recommended qualifications for Healthcare Assistants working in the public and private sector. This course is the passport to work in the healthcare sector. This course is delivered by teachers including specialist nurses who bring a real depth of experience to their teaching. Students will use two fully equipped Nursing suites for all of the practical work.

Learners work towards the QQI Level 5 Health Service Skills major award while also developing their English language skills. If you are over 21 and 6 months unemployed you may be eligible for VTOS (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme). This scheme gives unemployed adults over 21 the opportunity of returning to full time education, while retaining their benefit.

This course will equip the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence required to work as a healthcare assistant in any healthcare setting but in particular within an operating department in Acute Hospitals.  You will work as part of the existing skilled team in direct patient care. This course is open to anyone with an interest in working in an acute hospital setting.  You will be introduced to specific operating department care skills, alongside core modules such as Infection prevention & Control and Health & Safety.

This two-year part-time programme facilitates suitable adults in acquiring qualifications for employment in the area of healthcare and as healthcare assistants in residential and non-residential settings. It is ideal for people in receipt of a Carers Allowance or on any Social Welfare payment. People with a Medial Card and Early School leavers are also welcome to apply for eligibility.

This QQI Advanced Level 6 Certificate course offers holders of a QQI Level 5 health-related award the opportunity to undertake further study in this area. The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to undertake Supervisory Management roles in the community and in a range of Health Services settings.

It is suitable for candidates currently working as a healthcare assistant in a hospital, nursing home, daycare centre and in the client’s own home in a supervisory position or those who wish to progress to a Supervisory/Management role.

This Healthcare Support course equips the student with the practical knowledge and skills required to support and assist people in their daily lives. Throughout the Healthcare Support course, students are assessed using skills demonstrations, oral presentations, written assessments and roleplay scenarios

This programme offers learners an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge suitable for a healthcare setting with the necessary qualification required for all healthcare support staff. Learners complete work experience in a clinical/ward environment and are trained using simulation equipment to help them understand how to care for people. Successful learners could go on to work in many different healthcare settings including hospitals, nursing homes and register with agencies for home help services.

This course equips you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to provide valuable support in a variety of healthcare settings. You’ll gain a broad understanding of healthcare principles, legal requirements, and best practices, all while developing essential skills for interacting with and caring for a diverse range of clients. The course emphasises critical thinking, allowing you to plan and implement appropriate care strategies under supervision. Upon completion, you’ll be well-prepared to work as a healthcare support worker or progress to further education and training in healthcare.

This course is designed to prepare students to work as a healthcare assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, community settings and hospitals. There are practical and academic components in this course including skills demonstrations, assignments, exams and project work.

This course aims to give learners the opportunity to gain employment with the HSE, private agencies or nursing homes in the Healthcare sector. It will also enable learners to explore whether the pre-hospital care field is a suitable area for them, while gaining essential life skills in a structured programme.
