The aim of this one year full time course is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings and / or to progress to further or higher education and training.

This one-year Nursing Studies course will introduce you to practical experience in healthcare clinical settings which, combined with an insight into theories relating to the nursing profession, will enable them to deliver high standards of care. This course is designed to combine aspects of nursing theory and practical aspects of clinical nursing experience.

There are practical and academic components in this course including skills demonstrations, assignments, exams and project work.

The course provides the foundation skills and entry requirements to Degree Progammes in Ireland and the UK. This one-year full time NFQ course is an introduction to those who wish to progress on to paramedics, either in the Fire or Ambulance Services. This course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge in areas relevant to these careers. This course will improve the chances of recruitment in either the Fire, Ambulance Service, Nursing or Healthcare. Learners will gain essential knowledge and skills in areas relevant to these careers. This course is also suitable for adults seeking qualifications to return to the workforce. The course design is vocational in nature.

This intensive one-year program serves as a dual-purpose gateway for students aspiring to enter the nursing profession or work as Healthcare Assistants. The curriculum is led by clinical nurse practitioners, ensuring that nursing theory and practice are grounded in real-world expertise. Students train in a specialized nursing suite—modeled after a hospital room in St. James’s Hospital—using industry-standard equipment such as manual and ceiling hoists, hospital beds, and wheelchairs.

A Nursing Studies QQI Level 5 course serves as a foundation step towards pursuing a career in nursing. It provides students with essential knowledge, skills and competencies needed to enter nursing education programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
