The National Commis Chef Apprenticeship Programme is the starting point for a career as a professional chef. It follows the Earn & Learn model, blending off the job knowledge and skills development in a ETB Training Centre and on the job practical skills development with the apprentice’s employer, within a formal, structured two year programme.

Led by the Irish Hotels Federation, this two-year apprenticeship combines practical on-the-job training (3–4 days per week) with academic off-the-job learning (1–2 days per week). Coordinated by Kerry ETB, the program is delivered across multiple ETB locations nationwide, including Dublin, Cork, and Galway. It offers a structured pathway for aspiring professionals to gain industry-recognized qualifications while working directly within the hospitality sector.

With this two-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified commis chef, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Culinary Arts.

City of Dublin FET College, Crumlin in association with the Irish Hotel Federation is delighted to bring this two year apprenticeship programme.  Succesful candidates obtain an advance Level 6 QQI Qualification in Culinary Arts.  This course is a combination of practical skills and essential theory, both on and off the job, which fosters a comprehensive understanding of the key principles of our trade Apprentices will develop the underpinning theory, science and culinary skills and refine and perfect these competencies to a professional standard while under the direction of experienced, qualified chefs. The course in City of Dublin FET College, Crumlin is taught by Kevin O'Toole and Emmet Reilly, who between them they have over fifty years of industry experience.

The study of law is an enriching educational experience that provides intellectual stimulation and exposure to decision-making and argumentative skills. Modules are designed to provide you with a mastery of the discipline of law through the study of the core legal subjects which are considered essential to achieving a recognised bachelor’s degree in each country; e.g. Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Equity and Trusts, EU Law, Land Law, Administrative Law, the Law of Evidence, etc.

If you’d like to qualify for in-demand quantitative roles in the insurance and financial industry, the Common Entry into Actuarial and Financial Mathematics programme (CAFM) might be for you. It’s especially ideal if you’d like the flexibility to explore different areas of maths before choosing how you’ll specialise. 

You’ll learn the fundamental mathematical principles that underpin the state-of-the-art actuarial and financial models you’ll study in later years, along with computer programming, data analysis, economics and accounting.

Engineers can be found in many fields from high-tech industry and medicine to financial services, energy aware technologies and biotechnology. If unsure of which strand of engineering is for you this course helps you to choose while studying the fundamentals of engineering. 

You’ll spend first year building a strong engineering foundation across maths, materials engineering and basic sciences, while also building skills like logical and critical thinking. 

Then you’ll specialise in second year, going on to a challenging, cutting-edge course where you’ll build real expertise, whether that’s in mechatronics or sustainability engineering. Through lectures, labs, individual and group work, you’ll get hands-on experience with modern manufacturing processes, design, simulation and analysis procedures, and get skilled in programming and electronics. 

The BA in Communications is a three-year full-time programme which aims to give learners an introduction to communications platforms including photography, radio, journalism, and TV. The course involves both practical and academic projects and gives students the chance to work in real journalistic situations over the course of six semesters.

This program is designed to empower learners with the essential tools for effective interaction in both professional and social environments. The curriculum focuses on the core principles of verbal and non-verbal communication, ensuring students can convey and interpret information accurately during standard everyday tasks. Participants will develop the confidence to engage in clear spoken exchanges, master active listening techniques, and understand the subtle power of body language and visual cues. 

This program develops essential skills in professional writing, media research, and photography, catering to the demands of the modern press and digital platforms. It is specifically curated to prepare students for journalism degrees or direct entry into media environments, fostering a deep understanding of ethical reporting, visual storytelling, and investigative techniques.

This 3-year Level 8 honours degree programme offers students the opportunity to garner the skills to craft, bring to life and deliver stories through the various media and platforms that are available today. This course is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in the digital communications arena. It will include key subjects that inform the digital media sphere, including local journalism, marketing and advertising, advocacy, campaigning, community awareness and digital communication. 

This honours degree course enables students to gain practical media skills and build an industry-class portfolio across a range of media.

Through the BA in Communications Studies degree here in DCU, you can explore the world of communications while also learning essential basics of media production. This three-year degree will appeal to you if you are curious and have a strong interest in people, society and the media.

This new degree addresses current demands for expertise in the fast-changing world of communication. The programme emphasises the importance of English for effective communication. This course is suitable for both mature students and school leavers who would like to pursue a fulfilling and rewarding career providing care and support to vulnerable people in the community, but who do not necessarily wish to be a healthcare/special needs assistant.

The aim of the course is to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of social care theories and best practice, and the opportunity to gain employment in the sector or progress to further or higher education.

This course promotes principles of inclusion, human rights, equality and social justice, working towards sustainable development and tackling issues such as inequality, climate change, poverty and disadvantage.

In this course, you’ll learn the knowledge and skills you need to work in community development and youth work. Subjects include sociology, psychology, community development, social policy, addiction, human rights, youth development and social entrepreneurship. The course has a strong element of experiential learning and involves fieldwork placements.

Students are faciliatated to explore current issues facing young people and those working in the field.

The BA in Community and Youth Work is a fully integrated programme of education and training in both community and youth work. Community work is concerned with the development and empowerment of communities through facilitating the active participation of people in addressing issues that affect them collectively.
