This Costume Design course introduces you to the creative and practical skills needed to design and make costumes for theatre, film, and performance. You will learn how costume supports storytelling and character in theatre and film.

While working in a studio-based environment you will develop skills in costume design, pattern cutting, garment construction, and historical costume research. The course will allow you to explore fashion influences, historical periods, and character references to inform your designs. By exploring the development of costume and dress across different time periods you will gain knowledge of costume history and silhouettes for designing period costumes.

This intensive course provides you with the creative ability to visually communicate your design ideas and the technical skills to produce complete costumes, hair and make-up for performers.

Areas of general study include research, design development, drawing and illustration, pattern drafting and costume construction for the realisation of 2D designs into 3D. You will also learn practical skills for hair/wig and make-up design and application.
