Our BSc in Applied Psychology is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour. It examines how we think, feel, act and interact with other people. You will develop skills in research, problem-solving, critical thinking and analysis, communication and professional development. The course will be relevant to anyone wishing to pursue a longer-term career in psychology. It is also an ideal stepping stone to post-graduate study either within psychology or in other areas of social science. 

Applied Psychology is a scientific study especially concerned with the practical applications of the mind, behaviour and of mental processes in relation to everyday life. This includes engagement with education, health, crime, advocacy, counselling and mental health. This degree in Applied Psychology gives you the opportunity to study psychology and society, politics and activism, crime, research skills, social, behavioural, cognitive, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology.

This course investigates societal issues including disability, mental health and addiction and explores the interventions and infrastructure, both statutory and voluntary in their approaches that support wellbeing and rehabilitation.

This advanced course shifts to raising personal and interpersonal awareness and the development of our own behaviour and attitudes that influence our role in social systems and structures in the work place, community and societal contexts.

Students will be trained and equipped with the knowledge and insight to develop and manage relationships within the work environment and this forms an integral developmental process on this course.

This one-year course is designed for those who have an interest in psychology and aims to give participants an introduction to the core theories and methodologies of psychology and prepare them for further study at third level.  On completion of the course, students will also have developed skills that are useful to careers in human resources, marketing, and public relations. This programme is ideal for both school leavers and experienced mature persons seeking a formal education.

Psychology is the scientific investigation of behaviour and mental processes. It aims to study how a person thinks, feels and acts in any social situation. The main emphasis is on the individual and how they can affect and be affected by social contact with other parties.

Applied Psychology avails of general psychological principles and theories and uses them to investigate problems in the area of business management, product design, ergonomics, law, health and mental health.

In addition, the course also lays the foundation for a wide variety of people focused careers in social research, environmental psychology, marketing and human resource management.

This Applied Science – Forensics course explores the basics of forensic science, including evidence collection and analysis. Students will gain hands-on skills in fingerprinting, hair and fibre analysis, footprint casting, blood spatter examination, and DNA profiling. The course emphasises safe lab practices and develops problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and tech skills.

This program offers a comprehensive scientific foundation across biology, chemistry, and physics, placing a strong emphasis on the development of practical laboratory techniques. Designed for those pursuing careers in science or research, the course bridges theoretical concepts with rigorous hands-on experimentation, ensuring learners are proficient in safety protocols, data analysis, and the use of industry-standard lab equipment.

This course will prepare the learner for direct employment or for progression to third level and is accepted for entry to most science, food science, nutrition or health related courses in Ireland.

This course also includes maths, biology, chemistry, physics and IT skills. These subjects are common to all first year science qualifications and give students an advantage over students entering directly from leaving certificate.

This course prepares students for the role of pharmacy assistant by providing a foundation in medical terminology and basic science. As a pharmacy assistant, you will work as part of a healthcare team, supporting customers in achieving better health. Students may also complete the Irish Pharmacy Union’s Medicine Counter Assistant award.

This one-year, NFQ Level 5 full time course is aimed at those who are passionate about science and who wish to continue their scientific journey. The course equips learners with the vocational skills and knowledge in Biology, Chemistry & Physics, to work independently and under supervision in a science environment and to progress to further and or higher education and training.

Social care is a dynamic, challenging and ever-changing career, reflecting and responding to the needs of those who are most in danger of poverty and social exclusion, and/or who find themselves at the margins of society.

Social care workers work with children, young people, adults, families, individuals with disabilities, asylum seekers, and/or with people experiencing challenges such as homeless, addiction, mental health difficulties to name just a few. During your study, you will learn about psychology, sociology, law, addiction, trauma, racism, culture and more, to understand and critically evaluate society and apply your knowledge to social care practice.

The overall aim is to develop reflective and ethically-aware practitioners with the capacity to build professional relationships, in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs.

You will learn about the multiple causes of social oppression and ways of working with people with a variety of needs so they can be healthy, resilient and free contributors to a caring society.

This one- year Level 6 course offers a progression route for graduates of QQI Level 5 healthcare, childcare and psychology courses who wish to expand their knowledge of the areas of mental health and disability awareness.

Learners will learn about the needs of the vulnerable groups in society and the strategies, models and best practice programmes employed to support a more inclusive society of all.

Learners will also develop group facilitation skills which will enable them to work with the individual on a one-to-one basis or in a group-based context.

This one-year NFQ Level 5 full time course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to the area of sociology and social studies. This programme will provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their understanding, awareness, knowledge, research and study skills and competence in the area of Applied Social Studies so that they may proceed to work in the social care sector or progress to further or higher study.

The Applied Social Studies course allows students the opportunity to study the impact of society on how we interact, behave and relate as people. It looks at key topics such as culture, racism, addiction and mental health. The course involves a combination of academic and practical skills. It enables the learners to develop key skills in caring for others and themselves while fostering the ability to think critically and in a less judgemental way. The course also provides students with the opportunity to progress to level 6 and level 8 courses in different colleges and universities.
