Participants will build on their existing knowledge of software development. The main programming languages taught are Java and Visual Basic (VB). On this course, Java is used mainly to build mobile apps for the Android platform whereas Visual Basic is used to teach Graphical User Interface (GUI) programming. There is a strong emphasis on experiential learning with students learning by doing (rather than by observing).

Software Design for Mobile Apps and Connected Devices is a course that teaches students how to design and develop software applications for mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, wearables, and IoT devices. The course covers topics such as user interface design, data management, networking, security, testing, and deployment. Students will learn how to use various tools and frameworks to create software solutions that are responsive, reliable, and user-friendly.

The aim of this exciting new degree is to provide a multidisciplinary undergraduate education by developing specific expertise and comprehensive training in the key areas relevant to the emerging Internet of Things: mobile app development, connected device programming and software development/engineering.

The goal is to produce qualified and well-rounded graduates capable of working in a range of IT positions such as Internet of Things mobile app developers, programmers, system integrators and system validators.

The BSc in Software Development is a three- year Level 7 degree programme designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to gain employment in the software development industry. More specifically, the programme will provide students with relevant skills and knowledge in the area of modern software development focusing on languages, techniques, tools and methodologies and their application to real world problems.

This programme gives you the skills and knowledge you need to design and build applications that people use every day, for the desktop computer, for the web and for mobile devices (such as smart phones and tablets). You will become proficient in the application of state-of-the-art technologies in areas such as cloud computing, machine learning, big data and data analytics. As a Software Developer, you will be involved in all stages of the application from start to finish.

This course will equip students with the range of skills required to become competent IT managers or software developers. Modules for the first three years include a broad range of subjects and an industry work placement. IT Management involves the coordination of complex computer systems in organisations including the selection, installation and maintenance of all computing technologies. This is a critical role in any organisation as the efficient management of IT is vitally important for all aspects of a business. In Software Development, Year 4 concentrates on state-of-the-art, high-level software development topics such as: secure app development, data science, distributed systems and an extensive project.

This course provides a foundation for learners who wish to gain employment in the field of Computers or who wish to continue their studies and progress to Higher Education.

The course is supported by F.I.T. (FastTrack to Information Technology), who provide supports such as CV writing and Interview Skills workshops along with mock interviews.
