The BA in Fine Art is designed for students who wish to work as cultural producers in the Fine Art sector. The course is focused primarily on acquiring the knowledge and skills that are needed to operate as a visual artist in a competitive environment, nationally and internationally.

There’s a strong emphasis on developing skills acquisition, creative intelligence and conceptual and critical thinking abilities, which are integrated with modules in Critical Theory and Professional Practice.

The BTEC Fine Art course offers an exciting and challenging programme of study providing students with both essential subject knowledge and skills.

The course consists of a broad range of subjects from drawing techniques to 3D studies in ceramics and mixed media, printmaking, photography and contextual studies.

Students who progress into year two are encouraged to develop a more self-directed approach whilst engaging with tutors. This provides the opportunity to specialise in and explore chosen subjects further.

You will explore core practical skills including drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media which are essential skills to prepare you for art colleges. You will use your creative thinking, ideas, style and visual communication throughout the creation of your portfolio.

Our practical projects and exhibitions include opportunities to work with professional artists, and to experience the professional world of the artist.

All departments in the School of Fine Art - Media, Painting, Fine Print , Sculpture and Applied Materials - help students to develop a highly individual way of seeing and interpreting, and of expressing themselves visually.  Emphasis is placed on visual awareness and artistic analysis, on acquiring skills in the use of both traditional and new materials and media.

This studio-based programme prepares students for the professional world of contemporary art; learning how to make, experiment, research and critique art. Students will explore and engage with: painting, drawing, sculpture, print, photography, performance, sound, video, and digital media in varied contexts. Students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of media in order to develop their individual art practice.

The degree is designed to offer students the widest possible experience in materials and media - drawing, painting, digital media photography and video, ceramics, printmaking, sculptural studies, work in context, visual literacy and visual material culture, and history/theory of art. These are taught with a focus on the student’s own research and art-making initiatives as the years progress.

This full-time programme affords students the opportunity to further develop creativity, technical skills and artistic identity through studio work. Students may also further develop animation techniques.

The well-established Fine Art course in St. John’s college will give you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and develop your skills in fine art painting, sculpture, drawing and design.

We also support students to prepare a portfolio and how they may go about setting themselves up in the art world in the future.

Students can also do an optional subject (Art in the community module) that involves learning how to work creatively with groups in the Community arts and or Arts and health sector.

This full-time programme enables students to express their artistic potential through a variety of artistic traditions and methods. From their own personal studio space, students learn about ideas generation and problem solving methods to develop the initiative and confidence to make art.

This course aims to prepare learners for employment in the FinTech sector. This foundation course will introduce learners to the area of financial technology so that they will be motivated to pursue job opportunities and further training in the sector. The learner will develop an understanding of the international financial services market and develop competence in key finance concepts, digital and interpersonal skills.

This course aims to provide the training for candidates to provide STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting in accordance with Section. A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. On successful completion of the course, a trainee will be competent to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the ship and to use fire appliances correctly. The trainee will also have a knowledge of fire prevention.

This course is mandatory for a learner to complete a Second-Hand Limited or Second-Hand Full Certificate of Competency.

Our Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Fire Safety Engineering is a broad discipline covering a wide range of areas including fire prevention, detection, escape, suppression and control. The aim of this four year programme is to equip you with the engineering knowledge at a scientific and practical level to undertake both prescriptive and performance based fire design safety.

You will take core modules in mathematics, fire science, fluids, thermodynamics, building services, construction technology and structural design, along with general construction elements such as CAD, construction economics, land surveying and technical writing. You will then advance to fire safety subjects that take account of human behavior, fire and reliability modelling, fire structural design and fire engineering techniques.

This course aims to provide training for candidates in STCW Advanced Fire Fighting.

Seafarers designated to control fire-fighting operations on board a vessel shall complete advanced training in techniques for fighting fire, with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command.

Seafarers are required to demonstrate competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in table A-VI/3 of the STCW code.

The first steps to education courses aim to provide learners with the skills and confidence in the important areas of literacy and numeracy. The courses are designed to support you and make you feel empowered to learn and to progress at your own pace. This programme is targeted at early school leavers and people new to English and Irish languages.

First Year Studies at NCAD gives you the solid foundation that you require for entry into the variety of creative paths of study offered by the college. First Year Studies is a common entry course that leads our students to studying any one of the fourteen different studio specialisms available in NCAD

The School of Fine Art, Paint, Print, Sculpture , Media, Textile Art & Artefact and Ceramics & Glass ( Applied Hard Materials) ; and in the School of Design, Graphics, Illustration, Moving Image Design, Fashion Design, Textile Surface Design, Jewellery & Objects, Product Design and Interaction Design.

All these specialisms can also be studied as a Joint Honours Degree with Education or as a Studio specialism with Visual Culture.
