The Medicine curriculum at UCC is rooted in the basic Medical Sciences of Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, but also places emphasis on clinical instruction. A distinctive feature is small-group, patient-centred teaching, in which students learn the skills of listening and communicating, history-taking and clinical examination. 

The intermediate years of the programme will focus on learning about abnormal bodily functions. You will attend a wide array of clinical skills workshops, small group tutorials and case-based teaching sessions. A lot of your time will be spent in a hospital setting attached to clinical teams. The final years of the programme are spent fully immersed in various clinical specialties on a rotational basis.

RCSI's GEM programme is a four-year accelerated programme. In your first year as a GEM student, you will be taught in a dedicated teaching facility on the main St Stephen’s Green campus.

In your second year, you will spend most of your time in RCSI's dedicated teaching space at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, Dublin. In your final two years, you will be on clinical rotations in a variety of hospitals and GP practices in Dublin and throughout the country.

During each semester, you’ll complete a clinical placement, which ensures you’ll meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) requirements. Our health service provider partners offer diverse clinical settings, giving you a broad range of clinical learning opportunities across all the primary mental health specialities. For this course, they are:

Over the duration of the course, students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to care for people experiencing mental health challenges. Student’s academic and clinical knowledge will be developed using simulated learning environments and modern learning spaces.

Students gain their clinical experience in a diversity of clinical placements, caring for people experiencing mental health challenges. Mental health nursing clinical placements account for fifty percent of this course. In preparation for clinical placement students attend practical classes in the Clinical Skills laboratory.

Nurses take centre stage in ensuring efficient and effective delivery of accessible, integrated and consumer-driven healthcare, creatively designing health related services, and ensure quality through advocacy, policy-making, service management, education and research.

The BSc Nursing (Mental Health) programme is designed to ensure that you graduate with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to deliver recovery focused compassionate care, responsive to the mental health needs of individuals and communities within evolving healthcare settings. The graduate will be able to work collaboratively and in partnership with service users, their families/carers, the wider community and other health professionals in providing a proactive, evidence-based quality holistic service.

The programme provides opportunities for development of the fundamental nursing skills and allows the student to adapt these skills to a variety of populations and environments. It will foster and nurture the ethos for the student around the necessity for the continuation of professional development throughout their career. 

This four-year BSc (Hons) in Psychiatric Nursing offered in conjunction with HSE West and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) has been developed in response to the changing mental health needs of the Irish population. The role of the mental health nurse is to foster the health and well-being of individuals experiencing changes in their mental health status.

People with a mental illness are cared for in many different places such as hospitals, hostels, day centres, in the community and their own homes. We want to promote positive attitudes to mental health and to help people deal with any mental/emotional challenges they face in life.

Our Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing is a four year course that will prepare you for a fulfilling career in mental health and associated fields. This programme provides an introduction to the field of Mental Health as it applies to the broad spectrum of professions. The course may also be of interest to those with existing qualifications and skills who are looking to gain insight and understanding of how mental health theory applies to their field. The course might be of interest to all different ages of students and can be an add on course to existing medical / social care / educational workers who have interests in mental health awareness.

A metal fabricator will be involved in the installation and manufacture of a range of metallic systems to include pressure vessels; tank and boiler manufacture; structural steel systems; plate steel systems and piping systems.

The job entails the reading of drawings and working with materials such as low carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and aluminium. A metal fabricator uses skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials using different processes and assembly techniques. A metal fabricator may also work outdoors and may be required to work at heights.
