This course is suitable for you if you have a strong interest in sport and exercise science and wish to pursue a career in high performance sport, a clinical profession (e.g. physiotherapy, dietetics, medicine) and/or scientific research in sport and health sciences. You will study the scientific principles underlying the promotion and enhancement of sport, physical health and exercise across the lifespan.

The course is a mix of business, sports and leisure theory and applied modules providing you when you graduate with a wide range of competencies and attributes that you will find valuable working within the Sports, Leisure and associated sectors.

You will study topics such as Communication, Marketing, Intercultural Competence, Leadership in Health Activity and Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, Leisure Law, and Facilities Management. Graduates will build the attributes and competencies required to work in the field. 

This course offers a broad introduction to Sport, Exercise and Recreation studies, providing students with the necessary skills to take up employment at entry level in the leisure industry. Students will improve their knowledge, competence and understanding of physical fitness and sport both practically and theoretically.

Our Bachelor of Science in Sports & Exercise with degree award options: Performance or Physical Education, is a four year programme that combines your passion for sports with a successful career progress through the course. Studying sport or exercise at third level is an opportunity to harness your passion and combine it with the knowledge to build a wonderful career in either sports performance or physical education studies. The first two years provide the core foundation of the degree, while the last two years allow you to specialise.

This programme allows you to use a scientific approach to analyse performance in sport and exercise and to develop academic and professional skills which you can use to find employment in this expanding field. Science subjects studied include physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition.

This course develops analytical leaders with the problem-solving skills to drive innovation within the community and commercial sport sectors. The sports and exercise elements of the course develop professional and leadership skills in activities enjoyed by the general population throughout their lifespan.

This course equips students with a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to progress to further training in several areas including the Health Sciences, Rehabilitation, Health Nutrition and Sports and Exercise Science in a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Technological Universities.

This practical, hands-on programme gives you the skills and confidence to work in the sports, leisure, and fitness industries—from gyms and community centres to coaching or activity leadership.

This traineeship is run in conjunction with Dublin City Council.  Participants spend 2 days onsite in a Dublin City Council Sports and Fitness Centre.

This course is designed for people who have a passion for coaching, whether individual or team sports, across a variety of domain-specific environments including participation, talent development or elite performance.

Fundamentals of coaching science, pedagogy and professional practices in sports coaching are delivered through evidence-based and evidence-informed theory to the learning while also providing the opportunity to learn and apply the practical skills required to create a positive learning environment for individual athletes and/or teams.

he BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching provides students (aspiring coaches) with advanced coaching techniques, styles, and education through a variety of sports (e.g. team, individual, outdoor pursuit), including inclusivity and disabilities. This multidisciplinary programme will ensure students learn effective coaching techniques and have a scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, sport psychology, fundamentals of movement, talent development, and the ability to analyse and critique technique. All these skills will be learnt through a variety of different coaching environments.

During this course, the student will have an option to enrol on an industry standard qualification, awarded by ITEC. It also offers students the opportunity to gain valuable sports coaching awards with the FAI and the GAA.

The skill set required to be a Personal Trainer requires knowledge of all aspects of fitness including advanced fitness testing, specialist programme design, sports nutrition application and delivering personal training sessions effectively. According to leading industry employers, Personal Trainers require knowledge of customer service and sales which are also offered on this course, and these will positively impact earning potential.
