Forensic science is the application of scientific knowledge and techniques in support of the legal process. The application of DNA technologies in forensics, and a wide range of industries and the state laboratories, has increased hugely. This course will provide you with a broad knowledge and understanding of the core biological and chemical sciences. You’ll develop practical and problem-solving skills in the laboratory in pharmaceutical, biological and chemical & forensic analysis, as well as both theoretical understanding and practical skills in DNA fingerprinting technology.

MIC's new BA in Drama and English offers a unique combination of Drama/Theatre practice and research with significant grounding in English Literature.

By combining a focus on practical modules in acting and theatre production with academic research on great literature, we offer our students a unique and exciting degree that will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and excellent writing and communication skills.

Students undertaking Drama and English explore theatre, performance, literature and language in the widest possible sense: from ancient Greece to Renaissance England; the Irish Literary Revival to Postmodern America; from the earliest writings in Anglo-Saxon to contemporary Irish, British, and ‘global’ literatures.

The language modules explore the history, structure, and function of English.

Theatre Studies encompass all the arts that make up the live experience we call theatre – including costume, lighting, sound, devising, directing, design, dramaturgy and playwriting. We also study the meaning behind theatre, analysing culture and politics, space and place, the presence of audience and performers, and the use of digital technology.

The Performing Arts program offers a vibrant and immersive environment for students to hone their talents in acting, auditioning, and technical production. The curriculum is built on a foundation of collaboration, encouraging performers to work closely with other creative individuals to discover their unique artistic strengths and professional potential. A hallmark of the course is its focus on practical, real-world experience, as students move beyond the classroom to train and perform in various professional theaters and high-profile performance venues. 

What is Drama?
Drama exists on and off the stage. Theatre happens in our everyday life. It is the basis for story-telling and other forms of performance within the creative arts. It has its origins in sacred ritual and remains central today as part of our sensemaking as we negotiate our place in the world.

What is Middle Eastern, Jewish and Islamic Civilisations?
The cultures and societies of the Middle East have been deeply influential in shaping European and western values. In spite of this, the region and its peoples are often misunderstood and represented. Middle Eastern, Jewish and Islamic Civilisations is the study of the historical origins as well as contemporary culture of a wide range of societies of the region, providing you with an insight into the contemporary Middle East and to the challenges of diversity and multiculturalism in an increasingly globalised world.

Drama Studies

The course explores the relationship between the theory and practice of Drama and Theatre to discover how and why they work. The strong developmental emphasis of the courses requires a particular blend of practical and academic skills. In addition to a high level of analytical ability and creativity you will need to possess resourcefulness and self-motivation.

Students combine this subject with their choice of Italian, Russian or Spanish.

This course is perfect for students who know they want to work in areas of Theatre and Film but have not yet decided on which sector to specialise in. The course offers potential performing arts students the ability to develop all the skills necessary not only in voice, acting and movement, but also in film studies, film production and postproduction resulting in a well-rounded and diversly skilled graduate.

This course is designed for students who aspire to work in the fields of drama, theatre, and film. It offers comprehensive training in performance, technical theatre, and film, preparing students to enter the industry as versatile and interdisciplinary practitioners. The structure of the course allows students the time and flexibility to explore their interests and develop their individual strengths.

This programme has been developed in conjunction with people working in the industries that employ our graduates. We aim to produce graduates who understand how medicines and healthcare products, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals, are manufactured and checked to make sure they are safe, effective, and of a high quality. Drug and Medicinal Product Analysis is a highly relevant programme that leads to excellent job prospects. 

Inaugurated in November 2017, the Dual BA Program between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University builds upon the success of two preexisting international dual degree programs within the School of General Studies, and a long-standing exchange program partnership between both universities. The second transatlantic undergraduate program at Columbia University, the Dual BA Program builds upon previous partnerships in both Europe and Asia and serves as a model for future cooperative efforts between Columbia and international universities.

The Dual BA Program offers students an international educational experience with a program spanning two continents and cosmopolitan cities. The Program allows students to enhance their global outlook and develop their language skills and communication abilities to a high level. Students spend the first two years studying in Dublin’s city center and the final two years in the heart of New York City.

The Sports & Recreation Traineeship, in partnership with Dublin City Council, offers a premier "earn and learn" opportunity for those seeking a professional career in the fitness and aquatic sectors. This fully funded program (no cost to the student) follows a hybrid structure, three days of academic and practical instruction at FET College Íde Finglas and two days of immersive, on-site training at a Dublin City Council Sports and Fitness Centre. 

The Dublin City Council Traineeship in Personal Training and Sports Nutrition is a high-value, cost-free program designed for aspiring fitness professionals. This structure allows learners to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world fitness environment immediately. The program is inclusive, welcoming both school leavers and mature students, and provides all necessary books, examination fees, and college-branded sports gear at no cost to the participant.

The course addresses contemporary retail management needs that reflect the rapidly changing economic and technological environment. It aims to provide a broad technologically informed business education for future retail managers that reflects the changing needs of the sector.

Early Irish is the language in use in Ireland from the earliest period for which there are records up to the year 1200. The course covers the language and literature from the emergence of writing at the arrival of Christianity in Ireland to the production of the great saga manuscripts of the twelfth century.

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Care & Education is a three-year level 8 honours degree awarded by University of Essex. The programme examines how play, learning, and policy influence young children’s development across historical, political, and cultural contexts.

Delivered through blended learning, this honours degree allows students to continue working full-time while completing their qualification. Throughout the three-year programme, learners develop a strong understanding of children’s rights, health and wellbeing, diversity, and inclusive practice, drawing on disciplines including psychology, sociology, education, and health studies.

The BA (Ord) Early Childhood Care & Education is a level 7 degree, awarded by University of Essex, designed for early years professionals who want to progress their qualifications while continuing to work full-time.

Delivered through blended learning, the programme supports work-study balance through structured online learning, evening webinars, and one-to-one tutor support. Students are also required to complete 450 hours of placement in an early years setting each academic year.

Early Childhood Care and Education course aims to develop learners to the highest level of professional competence as practitioners. This qualification will allow you to work as a room leader or supervisor under the ECCE scheme. You will be qualified to work with children from 0-12 years within the broader ELC (Childcare) settings. This course is ideal for those currently working within an early years setting.

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Care & Education (1-Year Top-Up) is designed for individuals who already hold a level 7 BA (Ord) in Early Childhood Care & Education or an equivalent qualification and wish to progress to a level 8 honours degree.

Delivered through blended learning, the programme is completed over approximately 8-10 months, allowing students to continue working while advancing their qualifications.
