This course is designed for people who want to attain the standards of proficiency for social care workers as defined by CORU. The learner will engage with 18 modules that explore social care practice and how it applies in various social care settings. Students will complete over 800 hours of supervised practice placement, in a social care setting.

Professional practice placement is integral to this programme, where students complete two 13-week blocks in professional social care practice settings.

Social studies examines  the past and current behaviour of individuals and societies. The overall aim of the course is to develop critically reflective, skilled and ethically aware practitioners with the capacity to build professional relationships, in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs.

Social care is a practice based profession and an academic discipline. This degree will give you a recognised professional qualification in social care and prepare for you for the challenging and rewarding role of being a social care worker. This one-year Advanced Certificate (Level 6) is designed to deepen expertise in critical social care areas, including Mental Health and Disability Awareness. The program challenges students to critically evaluate contemporary trends and models of social care provision through a rigorous blend of academic and practical modules. Students explore the diverse roles of a Social Care Professional, focusing on specialized intervention strategies and the professional development necessary to support vulnerable populations effectively.

It will be underpinned by very practical applications including Marketing and Public Relations. Students will study up to date content in topical areas such as marketing research, marketing planning, promotional methods, social media marketing, search engine optimization, digital advertising, and effective public relations. Students will be eligible to apply for progression through the CAO to various Business and Marketing courses including TU Dublin, IADT and NU Maynooth.

Graduates are equipped to enter the workforce directly or progress to further studies, such as the Media Production HND at Coláiste Dhúlaigh or various university degrees via the CAO.
