Led by the Irish Hotels Federation, this two-year apprenticeship combines practical on-the-job training (3–4 days per week) with academic off-the-job learning (1–2 days per week). Coordinated by Kerry ETB, the program is delivered across multiple ETB locations nationwide, including Dublin, Cork, and Galway. It offers a structured pathway for aspiring professionals to gain industry-recognized qualifications while working directly within the hospitality sector.

The Commis Chef Apprenticeship is the starting point for a career as a professional chef. It’s a formal structured two year education and training programme incorporating periods of off-the job knowledge and skills development in a college or centre and work-based knowledge and skills development in an approved hotel or restaurant kitchen.

During this time, apprentices will develop the underpinning theory, science and culinary skills in a college or centre and refine and perfect these competencies to a professional standard while working under the direction of qualified and experienced chefs in the kitchens of SOLAS approved hotels and restaurants.

With this two-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified commis chef, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Culinary Arts.

The BA in Communications is a three-year full-time programme which aims to give learners an introduction to communications platforms including photography, radio, journalism, and TV. The course involves both practical and academic projects and gives students the chance to work in real journalistic situations over the course of six semesters.

This program develops essential skills in professional writing, media research, and photography, catering to the demands of the modern press and digital platforms. It is specifically curated to prepare students for journalism degrees or direct entry into media environments, fostering a deep understanding of ethical reporting, visual storytelling, and investigative techniques.

This 3-year Level 8 honours degree programme offers students the opportunity to garner the skills to craft, bring to life and deliver stories through the various media and platforms that are available today. This course is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in the digital communications arena. It will include key subjects that inform the digital media sphere, including local journalism, marketing and advertising, advocacy, campaigning, community awareness and digital communication. 

This honours degree course enables students to gain practical media skills and build an industry-class portfolio across a range of media.

This course gives you the skills needed to work in the communications cabling industry. It focuses on installing fibre optics and copper cabling.

You will be introduced to the academic foundation and general areas of social justice and gain an understanding of contemporary community and social contexts and issues. Through the study of relevant themes, you will study and examine societal injustice, legal studies, human rights and related debates that are relevant to society.

This course is suitable for both mature students and school leavers who would like to pursue a fulfilling and rewarding career providing care and support to vulnerable people in the community, but who do not necessarily wish to be a healthcare/special needs assistant.

The aim of the course is to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of social care theories and best practice, and the opportunity to gain employment in the sector or progress to further or higher education.

This course promotes principles of inclusion, human rights, equality and social justice, working towards sustainable development and tackling issues such as inequality, climate change, poverty and disadvantage.

In this course, you’ll learn the knowledge and skills you need to work in community development and youth work. Subjects include sociology, psychology, community development, social policy, addiction, human rights, youth development and social entrepreneurship. The course has a strong element of experiential learning and involves fieldwork placements.
