This programme offers students an introduction into a wide range of engineering disciplines. Our suite of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Robotics & Automation all have common Year 1 modules, giving students a taste of each engineering discipline before having to commit  to which area of engineering they wish to specialise in from Year 2. This general engineering year gives students exposure to all the different types of engineering that are on offer and equips them with the fundamentals of engineering. It will help to make an informed choice of what field of engineering to enter based on aptitude and interest.   

This course equips students with the practical skills required to be a practical electronic or electrical engineer. Students study the basic concepts in electrical and electronic systems, the equipment used, and the practical applications of these to innovate solutions for local and international industry in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services, Control, Automation, Energy Production and Renewable Technologies.

ATU Sligo offer a wide range of engineering programmes including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Precision Engineering and Design. This degree offers students the opportunity to study engineering in a general way for a semester before specialising in an area of their choice. This general engineering semester gives students exposure to all different types of engineering and equips them with the fundamentals of engineering.

Students on this course combine the knowledge of physical sciences and engineering education with practical experience to invent, design, manufacture, run and maintain mechanical systems equipment and tools. Course topics include mechanics, fluids, heat, mathematics, materials, manufacturing, and computer-aided design.

As one of the only PLC courses in the country currently delivering the ‘Maths for STEM – 5N0556’ module, Preliminary Engineering is well placed to offer students the opportunity to progress to Level 8 courses.

This is a pre-apprenticeship course that is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in industry, with a particular emphasis on electrics or Engineering. It is designed for students who wish to aspire to work as electrical or Engineering apprentices in industry.

The course enables students to develop practical Electrical and Engineering skills, and a key part of the course is work experience in these areas. Students gain practical skills in areas such as Control Systems, Electronics, Engineering processes and CAD.

MEng Hons Engineering Management is a five-year, fully CEng accredited, engineering course that is designed to equip you with a valuable blend of engineering and business skills. You will study a wide range of subjects that explore topics such as engineering technology and materials, manufacturing systems and processes, new product design and mechanical engineering, as well as studies in business and management.

The course develops your skills in analysis, problem solving and design, as well as valuable professional skills in communications, teamwork and project management. The course includes a year-long paid industrial placement during your third year. This allows you to experience and participate in real-life engineering projects and learn how theory relates to practice. Successful completion of the placement leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP) upon graduation. There are options throughout the course to study subjects of particular interest to you or your career aspirations.

The BEng Hons Engineering Management is a four-year, professionally accredited engineering course that is designed to equip you with a valuable blend of engineering and management skills.

Engineering Management graduates play a key role in design and manufacture where the challenges include the development of more efficient and effective manufacturing systems and processes, the creation of innovative products, global sustainability and the building of new business models to support high-value manufacturing.

This course provides a foundation for students who wish to pursue further studies in
Engineering at Third Level. It is devised for school leavers and also for mature applicants.
It will enable graduates to progress to third level courses or to pursue opportunities in apprenticeships or employment.

An engineering services manager will be capable of managing the performance of a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment and associated services in commercial/industrial scale facilities throughout the entire system life cycle. This will involve liaison with designers and consultants, contracting companies, installation/commissioning/maintenance personnel, statutory agencies and end-users.

Key elements include the planning of activities, the identification and management of resources required and performance optimisation given due consideration to technical, commercial and safety/environmental aspects. The Manager will be practised in the supervision of the work of others and in communication with the various stakeholders involved in new project installations and/or in the management of existing facilities.

This programme is designed as an add-on qualification for holders of the Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate or equivalent.

This full time Engineering Technology Level 5 course is designed to meet the needs of a variety of students who wish to explore the field of engineering.

The course aims to develop skills, knowledge, and expertise essential to gaining an apprenticeship in a range of trades in the industry, as well as providing progression opportunities to those interested in studying engineering at third level.

This course is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to enter employment at apprenticeship level or progress onto professional engineering programmes at various universities and Institutes of Technology.

The course aims to educate and train students in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on the technical requirements of industry in Ireland. The course is a preparation for direct employment in an engineering industry. It will provide students with a solid foundation to study an engineering course at third level.

Students studying Mechanical Engineering have access to technical workshops, fitted with a variety of specialist equipment, including lathe, milling machine, cnc, mig, tig and arc welding.

This full time Engineering Technology Level 5 course is designed to meet the needs of a variety of students who wish to explore the field of engineering. The course aims to develop skills, knowledge, and expertise essential to gaining an apprenticeship in a range of trades in the industry, as well as providing progression opportunities to those interested in studying engineering at third level.

The aim of this course is to provide learners with a basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering. Students will gain practical skills to pursue a career in the Engineering industry and have an introduction to theory necessaryfor entry into Third Level education. Students will also have the opportunity to study QQI Level 5 Maths required for entry into Engineering courses at Third Level. In this course learners will through theory and practice gain experience in the following: Machine Processes, Bench Fitting, Precision Measurement, Computer Aided Design, 3D Printing & Electronics.
