This is a multidisciplinary four-year engineering programme. It has an excellent graduate employment rate and provides graduates with a range of practical skills and competences in areas such as: Electro-Mechanical, Electronics, PLCs, SCADA, Control and Instrumentation, Industrial Networks, Data Modelling, Motion Control, Robotics and Software Engineering.

In this robotics and Intelligent Devices programme we focuses on the design, implementation, and use of intelligent physical things in the environment. These include robots, autonomous vehicles, smart sensors, and internet-of-things devices. In the modern world, many of these things are the basis for brand new services or service improvements in areas such as health and wellbeing, assistive living, safety, smart manufacturing, retail, and hospitality, among others.

Within the Modern Languages programme you study two modern European languages to degree level. It is the most intensive exposure to languages and cultures that Trinity College has to offer. You can choose between French, German, Irish, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Apart from French and Irish all languages can be studied from both advanced and beginners level. 

Russian writers, musicians and artists have made a considerable contribution to European culture; Russian history has helped shape Europe as we know it today: exploring Russia’s past and present helps understand the interaction between Europe’s eastern and western traditions.

This course is designed to build strong management skills including managing clients, scheduling and managing staff and salon marketing which are critical in either starting or running a business. You will learn through engagement with real scenarios in live ‘pop-up’ salons which simulate the day to day work of a salon manager.

As part of this programme, Apprentices will engage in on-the-job training with a SOLAS approved employer. Off-the-job training will take place in the classroom.

The programme provides a solid foundation in Science subjects in the first year, with module offerings in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Mathematical Studies, Computing and Applied Mathematics.

In the BSc degree students study a broad range of subjects inlcuding Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Science, Mathematics – and newer disciplines such as Biotechnology, Genetics, Bioinformatics and Multimedia.

The Pre-University Science course has been developed to enable students to obtain the entry requirements for accessing Science-based programmes at Higher Education institutes. Additionally, learners acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the science and pharmaceutical industries.

The course involves a mix of theory, laboratory practice and field activity. Each week includes a full day of field work, at different locations in wildlife-rich Co. Kerry and beyond. In first year, a foundation in biology, chemistry and numeracy is provided, and this is built on in second year with modules in botany, ecology, zoology and microbiology.

Practical modules in outdoor skills and Geographical Information Systems are also taken. The course provides insight into the kingdoms of life, giving a strong base on which to build deeper, more focused wildlife study.

This course gives students the opportunity to study common science topics for the first 2 years before specialising into an Award option stream in Years 3 and 4; Biopharmaceutical Science or Environmental Bioscience.

When you apply for Science you must select ONE of the following options:

• Common Entry SE500
• Biosciences with Biopharmaceuticals SE500
• Brewing and Distilling SE500
• Pharmaceutics and Drug Formulation SE500

Applicants who select a specific degree option are guaranteed a place on that programme subject to meeting the entry requirements and points. Applicants who are undecided on choices should choose Common Entry. All applicants may change their selection up to the end of Year 1 and must confirm their specialism at that point.

Science (Common Entry) was designed as a common entry course for the student who has a keen interest in science, but is unsure of which area they would like to specialise in. This course gives the student a flavour of a variety of different scientific disciplines, allowing them to keep their options open when applying to study science at third level.

The main aim of this course is to produce graduates with the skills they need to work as technicians/technologists or scientific personnel in the fields of biosciences, chemistry and physics.

Science is the process of understanding the world around us and underpins many of the major industrial sectors and employers in Ireland, for example, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Healthcare, Agri-Food and the Green Economy. 

This General Science course is ideal if you are not yet sure which Science discipline you wish to pursue and you are looking for a broad education in first year that will allow the maximum possible choice in future years.

The modules of this course offer an introduction to biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computing. Elective modules are also offered in specialised areas such as Food Science with Business, Pharmaceutical Science, and Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science.

The student can get a taste of what is involved in each of these areas, before making a more informed choice as to which area they would like to specialise in for their degree.

This programme is an general entry science programme that gives students an exceptional level of flexibility. The programme builds a core foundation in key science disciplines in Year 1. Our science programmes are hands-on, with a big emphasis on developing practical skills. This means our students graduate with the skills employers want. Students spend 50% of their time in labs and have access to state-of-the-art, industry-spec equipment. Small class sizes ensure students always have their own lab space and are fully supported by our expert academic staff throughout their learning. We also focus on soft skills such as teamwork and communication. These skills are highly valued by potential employers.

If you are interested in a career as a second-level science and/or mathematics teacher, this may be the degree for you. As an undergraduate, you will study a four-year Science degree, while also completing 60 credits in Education. After four years you are awarded a BSc Science (with Education) degree – a level 8 honours degree.
You now have two pathways open to you:

The Higher Certificate in Science provides students with a grounding in scientific knowledge and skills. There is an emphasis on practical skills and with more than 50% of the course dedicated to practical classes, students gain essential laboratory and analytical skills.

The course is designed to provide graduates with theoretical knowledge and understanding, and the practical skills necessary to pursue technical careers in a modern scientific environment in the areas of industrial chemistry, pharmaceutical manufacture, scientific instrumentation, quality control, food science and technology.

The UCD Science (DN200) course offers 27 degree subjects categorised into streams. Students can study subjects from more than one stream in first year. It is also possible for students to change their stream in first year.

At the end of first year, students choose a minimum of two subjects to study in second year (for example Statistics and Mathematics or Genetics and Microbiology). Students will major in one of these subjects in third and fourth year.
