This is a three year course designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and practical experience in computing and creative media. Students study approximately 60% computing in core areas, such as Web and Mobile Development, Networks and Databases, and 40% in creative media, such as UX Design, Graphic Design, Animation and Media Production.

Our students use industry standard innovative tools and technologies, to become proficient in programming and creative media to create custom-built interactive applications.

The course is primarily a computing course specialising in creative media, with approximately 60% computing content and 40% creative media content. It is a very practical based course where students develop skills through a strong emphasis on project work and continuous assessment. 

This one-year, NFQ Level 5 (MORNINGS) course is delivered over 5 mornings 9-2.15 which may suit learners who may have other commitments. This course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to explore and develop skills in fine art and craft disciplines.

Learners will draw and design in sketchbooks and research artists and critique their work. They will experiment with lots of different materials eg, clay, fine art embroidery, mixed media, fabric, printmaking etc. Learners will prepare a portfolio of work which can be used for portfolio assessment for Art College or other courses.

Creative digital media combines the creativity of art and design with the skills and knowledge of computer technologies and programming to create interactive digital media products. Creative digital media comes in many different formats. It can be almost anything you can hear or see like text, image, music, sound, video, film, animation, and more.

This Creative Digital Media course equips students with essential skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape of digital media. Through hands-on projects, students gain practical experience and develop a deep understanding of the tools, techniques, and strategies utilised in the industry. By exploring cross-platform software on Apple Macs and Windows PCs, students learn to plan, design, and produce visually captivating websites enriched with a wide range of multimedia features. Industry-standard software such as Premiere Pro is used for recording and editing digital media, enabling students to create professional video content.

This full-time one-year programme provides students with an understanding of the digital skills required for a range of industries like web design, software development, games design, programming and digital marketing, among others. Students will also have an option to complete Microsoft Power BI which provides students with an opportunity to be versed in the most up-to-date data visualization software.

This course develops media and communication theory as well as professional and technical skills through lectures, tutorials, studio workshops, exhibitions, presentations and group work. Individual and team-based project work are essential to acquiring the skills to be successful on this course and in industry. This course will build competencies in key skills in both conventional and new media.

The BA (Hons) in Creative Media places a strong emphasis on creativity, collaboration, design and innovation, and developing students’ practical skills to a high standard. Students are also encouraged to develop the theoretical skills necessary to critically analyse key media issues, both in terms of its technological manifestation and its social impact.
