The BA in Hospitality Management is awarded under the institution’s accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The degree may be taken on an accelerated track, which allows the student to complete the programme in three years by taking the internship components (normally taken in the second and third years0 during summer semesters. The blend of theory and the two semester-long internships give students the best of both the practical and academic worlds.

The programme provides a firm foundation of business courses in the first year, and subsequently offers two hospitality industry internships, a selection of interesting general education classes, and a range of courses examining aspects of hospitality management and its related fields in the international business, event management and tourism disciplines. In the course of the final year the student also completes a hospitality management research project.

This Work-Based-Learning Hospitality Management honours degree programme will provide learners already working within the hospitality industry with advanced knowledge, skills and abilities required to grow their career within the wider tourism and hospitality sector; and contribute to the industry’s evolving needs through enhanced professionalism.

The programme is designed by theme with the course flow reflective of the career journey the learner will take, with an emphasis on Operations, Business Processes and Strategy. A central component is the incorporation of Work-Based-Learning (WBL) projects bespoke to the learner’s workplace, which utilises the workplace as a legitimate and immersive learning environment.

The term Hospitality Management is most commonly associated with Hotels but also includes careers in entertainment venues, restaurants, bars and casual-dining, event management and contract catering.

This four year course is designed to equip graduates with a broad range of business skills combined with a thorough knowledge of the hospitality environment.

The aim of this Hospitality Management degree is to develop the skills and competencies of students to become a supervisor or manager in the tourism sector. This three-year honours degree programme is designed to enable you to experience a broad education in hospitality and tourism studies. This is an exciting course, which includes a compulsory overseas work placement. You will study the full suite of topics related to managing hospitality at the highest level, including bar, restaurant, front office and food and beverage management. Tourism is one the largest indigenous employers in Ireland, with 230,000 people employed in the industry. Students take two work placements during this course, in the summer of 2nd year and in the summer of 3rd year.

Cabin Crew Operations:
With this qualification you'll gain an insight in the basic operations of a flight attendant, learning the skills needed to make announcements while on-board, respond to emergency situations and manage to flow of the passengers.

Barista Skills:
With this qualification you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to prepare and serve hot and cold drinks in any environment.

The Hotel and Catering course creates a learning environment in which the emphasis is on the practical application of the skills necessary to work in the dynamic and ever-changing sectors of food and beverage, accommodation and food preparation. Students will be given the opportunity to gain EHAI (Environmental Health Association of Ireland) certification in Food Safety. This certificate is valid for five years and it is a legal requirement for anyone working with food in a range of sectors to hold such certification.

Hotel & Hospitality Operations is a PLC Work-Based programme, and part of your study will include work placements with our Hotel and Hospitality partners, where you will work with experienced colleagues, and learn practical skills in the business context. This programme leads to a qualification that will be your passport to exciting careers in the world of hospitality operations and management, including options to travel and to progress to Higher Education, and to progress to Level 6 Supervisory Management at Carlow Institute.

If you are enthusiastic about working in the tourism and hospitality sector, this course offers extensive customer service and front office reception skills training.

You will have a mixture of classroom-based modules, customer service skills and role play practice. You will have opportunities to develop skills such as teamwork, communications and time management. There will also be opportunities for relevant work experience. You will be expected to complete assignments and exams throughout the year. Course work will consist of a combination of onsite & online learning. Visits are also arranged to businesses and events during the year.
