The role of a Home Economist in communities is very much established in other European and International countries. This level 8, four year degree (which is not an initial teacher education qualification) fulfils the gap that is currently demanded and required within Irish society. It is designed to attract applicants who are passionate about Home Economics and aspire to be Home Economists advocating for sustainable health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.

This programme allows students to study a wide array of Home Economics and Business related modules.  This programme is the first in its kind as it is the only programme that offers a BA (Hons) in Home Economics and Business nationally.  Furthermore, the opportunities upon successful completion are vast.

Graduates may decide to pursue a Professional Master of Education (PME) in Home Economics and Business or decide to work as a Home Economist with families in a community setting. Graduates also have the knowledge, skills and competencies to work in area’s of food, nutrition, textiles, household technology (to name but a few). 

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills to work in a supervisory or managerial role in the equine industry or to progress to further or higher education and training.

In North Connaught College, Sligo, our students will be facilitated to explore equine studies with a view to re-skilling/up-skilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment. It will also enable the student to take responsibility for supervising the running of a riding school, training or competition stables.

Sport horse career opportunities include yard manager, competition rider, groom, breaking and training, coach, sales prep, and self – employed ventures such as equine tourism. In addition there are a number of career opportunities in supporting or service provider roles.

This full-time programme is designed to meet the demands of a wide and expanding equine industry. The course provides learners with skills required for seeking careers in a wide range of sectors in the equine industry.

This programme is designed to meet the demands of a wide and expanding equine industry. The course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills to work in a supervisory or managerial role in a range of sectors in the Equine Industry or the opportunity to progress to higher education. Students that successfully complete this course have fulfilled the requirements for the purpose of meeting the educational criteria for Young Trained Farmer scheme, i.e. Green Cert Status.

This one-year course will prepare students for the ever expanding Irish equine industry and provide students with the knowledge and skills relating to the horse industry. This course will enable the student who loves horses to pursue a career in the horse industry or continue their studies at third level in the equine area.

By changing their combination of modules, students can avail of the Business award or Laboratory Techniques award to continue to third level to study in this area.

This degree is delivered in partnership with Teagasc and South East Technological University. It blends science, practical skills, and business, covering plant production, landscape design, food crops, and sustainability. With a 15 week industry placement, graduates earn Green Cert status. This course suits those passionate about plants, the environment, sustainable food production, or pursuing a dynamic career in horticulture, landscaping, or agribusiness.
