The course is suitable for those:

• Seeking employment as surpervisors, technicians, unit managers
• Seeking employment in the horticultural business service sector
• Transferring to Year 2 of the BSc Horticulture offered by Waterford IT

The course will be offered in four main streams of learning: Food Production, Nursery Production, Landscaping and Sports Turf depending on student demand. Students complete one of the four streams.

Students will spend 16 weeks of practical learning on approved horticultural units within the industry directly linked to their chosen learning stream. This will enable students to learn the management and manual skills associated with their chosen specialism.

Sixteen weeks are also spent at the College. The emphasis during this course is both on the development of business and management skills and also on developing proficiency in a range of skills associated their chosen stream of learning.

Students who successfully complete this programme are awarded the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Horticulture. This meets the training requirements for Stamp Duty Exemption and DAFM Schemes.

With a focus on environmentally friendly practices and innovative technologies, this degree equips you with the knowledge and skills to become a competent and confident leader in the horticulture community. By studying core science subjects and specialist horticulture and environment modules, you will gain an understanding of sustainable management of food and ornamental plant production, knowledge of protecting and enhancing biodiversity and habitats, designing and managing landscapes, and the benefits of horticultural therapy.

This is a QQI level 4 course and is also available to VTOS applicants if eligible. It provides students with a general all-round knowledge in key aspects of horticulture. Students are offered a good balance of practical and theory-based skills including: growing vegetables, horticultural practice, plant care and identification. This course will enable you to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of horticulture with real hands-on experience.

The Hospice care course provides students with the knowledge, skills and competence to work under supervision in providing support in a variety of Healthcare settings or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

This course aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to care for individuals with serious illnesses in a hospice setting. Students will learn about the unique needs of hospice patients, including pain and symptom management, psychological and spiritual support, and end-of-life care. With this foundation of knowledge, students can support the team providing care, communicate effectively with patients and families, and provide a warm and comforting environment.

Hospital administration includes a diverse array of job duties to ensure that patients receive quality care and communication while at a medical facility. Situated with the largest hospital campus in the country on our doorstep, this exciting course is designed to assist you gain employment in medical administration.

If you see yourself employed as a liaison between the patient and medical staff in a hospital or medical setting, then then our highly committed team will train you in computer and reception skills, communication techniques, the use of appropriate medical terminology and relevant work experience. Students will attend college four days each week and are required to complete one day per week work experience in a medical administration environment. There will also be a two-week block placement.

This one-year course is an ideal entry level course for those interested in developing skills to work in the growing tourism sector in Ireland. This tourism programme has been designed to enable students to gain a broad understanding of the operations of the tourism industry and to facilitate their integration into the workplace or into further education and training. It also allows students to appreciate the opportunities presented by the web and eBusiness to successfully market products and services.  The event production element focuses on the management and production of corporate, leisure and cultural events.

This course combines a wide range of modules which aims to get students ready for the fast-paced Hospitality industry. It meets the increasing demand from employers for workers who are qualified to work in high end Bars, restaurants and hotels. Throughout the year students are involved in Managing their own Bar and restaurant, Entrepreneurial Activity, Market Research and other events linked to the tourism industry.

Students will also benefit from exposure to organising and welcoming guest speakers and industry specialists. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in the Erasmus+ Programme and travel abroad.

Hospitality and Tourism Industry Studies course is designed for learners who would like to pursue a career in the Hotel and Tourism industry. An industry with many career opportunities. Learners can progress to Advanced Hospitality, Travel and Event Management Year 2 course.

This full-time Level 5 programme, accredited by QQI, offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes business administration, bookkeeping, event production, food preparation, and more. With a strong focus on practical experience and industry relevance, graduates will be well-prepared for immediate employment opportunities or progression to further studies.

The BA in Hospitality Management is awarded under the institution’s accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The degree may be taken on an accelerated track, which allows the student to complete the programme in three years by taking the internship components (normally taken in the second and third years0 during summer semesters. The blend of theory and the two semester-long internships give students the best of both the practical and academic worlds.

The programme provides a firm foundation of business courses in the first year, and subsequently offers two hospitality industry internships, a selection of interesting general education classes, and a range of courses examining aspects of hospitality management and its related fields in the international business, event management and tourism disciplines. In the course of the final year the student also completes a hospitality management research project.
