During the Food & Agribusiness Management degree, you’ll learn how the principles of economics and business management apply to farming, food production and marketing. You’ll gain an understanding of how the Irish and international food systems deliver food products and services that people want, and how farmers and food manufacturers can produce profitably, while also taking care of the natural environment.

The four-year degree provides a unique opportunity to understand both business and science, focusing on the agri-food sector – Ireland’s largest indigenous industry. You will learn skills that can be used across a wide range of jobs both within and outside the agri-food sector.

CAFRE in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association (NIFDA) is delighted to launch a new 'study first' and work Apprenticeship opportunity. Starting in September 2025, study at Loughry Campus with an Apprenticeship employment contract with some of Northern Ireland's leading food businesses on the new Food and Drink Academy. The Food and Drink Academy offers you one academic year of student life, before three subsequent years of a combination of work and study. On the job training and the payment of a salary will be on-going throughout the duration of the four year Food and Drink Academy.

On successful completion of the four years of the training you will be awarded a Level 6 BSc (Hons) Degree in Food and Drink Manufacture, validated by Ulster University.

The BSc (Hons) Food and Nutrition programme embraces a range of subjects including sciences, business and consumer marketing and consumer behaviour. Our graduates have expertise in nutrition science and can use this expertise to shape the future of nutrition in the food industry, government or research environments.

All aspects of the programme are intrinsically linked to the food industry, which is rapidly expanding and changing its future focus to meet consumer demands and expectations. Understanding the role of the consumer and the importance of meeting consumer demands within today's marketplace is the central focus within this exciting and challenging programme of study.

The content is designed to develop your knowledge on the pivotal role the consumer plays in the design, development, management, marketing and retailing of products and services. It addresses the processes and key issues involved in helping consumers make informed choices about the products and services they buy and use.

Our Food Business with Chinese Studies programme prepares graduates with the skills urgently required by the Irish food industry to succeed in the changing market landscape. With Brexit and the uncertainty surrounding the UK market, it is critical for the industry to expand exports to emerging markets, particularly China. This requires improved foreign language capability, which we provide through a combination of fundamental food science and food business management modules, and language, cultural, and target market-oriented courses. In third year, students study at Renmin University of China, taking Chinese language courses and other relevant modules, while experiencing the diverse culture and vibrant economic growth of China.

The Honours Degree in Food Innovation Management, with pathways in Nutrition and Technology is validated by Ulster University. Students select the pathway they wish to study at the end of the first year of the course. The course aims to create well-motivated new entrants to the competitive global food industry. Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to apply food science, technology and nutrition to manage product and process innovations and to manufacture safe and nutritious food products that meet consumer demand. It will specifically focus on aspects food safety, quality and the application of new technologies and processes, product innovation, advanced innovations in agri-food and nutrition, emerging market and consumer trends, and the underpinning business and management functions applied within a food manufacturing company.

BSc (Hons) Food Marketing & Entrepreneurship offers a unique combination of business and science, providing graduates with the skills to work in an exciting, fast-paced industry. During Years 1-3 you will study various modules across a range of disciplines including Food Business, Marketing, Food Policy, Management, Economics, Microbiology, Accounting, Law, and Nutrition.

Food science focuses on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of food along the production chain, from its production on a farm to being eaten. The diverse scope of subjects covered provides students with a unique blend of scientific and technical skills designed to meet the needs of careers in the food industry, ranging from research and development to food processing and production.  

The Food Science Programme at UCD develops your scientific knowledge and practical skills in producing sustainable, high-quality, safe, and nutritious food for the global market. As a food scientist, you will be involved in all aspects of the food chain, from production to the consumer. You will learn core sciences such as biology, chemistry, and mathematics, and apply them to food physics, analysis, microbiology, and sensory science.

You will also gain expertise in food chemistry, processing, and new product development, preparing you for careers in production management, nutrition, food quality and safety, sales and marketing, and research.

This is a three year full time course is designed to train you in modern food processing methods, food safety management, analytical testing relevant to the food industry. The programme also incorporates a range of business skills to allow you have knowledge of the financial and management environment for the food industry.

Food Science is a multi-disciplinary field that uses knowledge of chemistry, biology, nutrition, microbiology and engineering. Food scientists are interested in the design and development of healthy, safe, nutritious and sustainable foods.

The Food Science programme here in TU Dublin will develop your scientific knowledge while also developing strong practical skills sought by employers. Practical work in our dedicated labs for food analysis, new product development, food chemistry, food microbiology and sensory science allows students to develop excellent laboratory skills.

This course facilitates the learner to explore Food Science and the principles of food processing with a view to gaining employment or progressing to further education or training.

This course is often used by learners as a prepatory course for progression to third level.

This full-time one-year programme offers students a solid foundation in general science while also offering an opportunity to concentrate on an introduction to working in the food science industry or the nutrition sector. It is suitable for students who are interested in preparing for a career as a food scientist and/or further education in the food, science or agriculture sectors. The food industry is one of Ireland’s largest sectors, therefore job opportunities and further study are numerous.

The aim of this one year full time programme is to enable learners to acquire the theory, principles, practices and techniques underpinning Food Science and Food Processing to enable them to work under supervision in a variety of contexts in the food industry and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

Work placement will be a core element of this course. Supports will be provided with accessing high quality placements.

Extra supports are also available, where necessary, with literacy, numeracy, IT, career guidance and counselling.

This B.Sc. programme in Food Science and Health prepares graduates for careers in Ireland’s largest The programme is four years in duration. This programme is for students who wish to work in the area of food production, quality assurance, nutrition, and product development, with a focus on future foods and the role of food in the health of people, in Ireland and globally. this course provides students with a broad science-based education, with specialist content on the future of food development, human nutrition, and the role of food and healthy living, and also explores the social and global challenges around food security.

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Food Science & Nutrition will provide the student with a broad knowledge of food science, including food manufacturing and processing alongside nutrition and dietary analysis. You will gain a deep understanding about the relationship between diet and disease, and how changing consumer lifestyles can impact on our health, as well as how the modern food industry operates. You’ll also learn about food production and processing, and study the nutritional properties, quality and safety of food products, acquiring a knowledge of human biochemistry, nutrition and dietary analysis.
