It addresses the processes and key issues involved in helping consumers make informed choices about the products and services they buy and use.

Our Food Business with Chinese Studies programme prepares graduates with the skills urgently required by the Irish food industry to succeed in the changing market landscape. With Brexit and the uncertainty surrounding the UK market, it is critical for the industry to expand exports to emerging markets, particularly China. This requires improved foreign language capability, which we provide through a combination of fundamental food science and food business management modules, and language, cultural, and target market-oriented courses. In third year, students study at Renmin University of China, taking Chinese language courses and other relevant modules, while experiencing the diverse culture and vibrant economic growth of China.

The Honours Degree in Food Innovation Management, with pathways in Nutrition and Technology is validated by Ulster University. Students select the pathway they wish to study at the end of the first year of the course. The course aims to create well-motivated new entrants to the competitive global food industry. Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to apply food science, technology and nutrition to manage product and process innovations and to manufacture safe and nutritious food products that meet consumer demand.

BSc (Hons) Food Marketing & Entrepreneurship offers a unique combination of business and science, providing graduates with the skills to work in an exciting, fast-paced industry. The Food Science Programme at UCD develops your scientific knowledge and practical skills in producing sustainable, high-quality, safe, and nutritious food for the global market. As a food scientist, you will be involved in all aspects of the food chain, from production to the consumer. You will learn core sciences such as biology, chemistry, and mathematics, and apply them to food physics, analysis, microbiology, and sensory science.

This is a three year full time course is designed to train you in modern food processing methods, food safety management, analytical testing relevant to the food industry. Work placement / work experience may be a core feature/element of programmes in this field facilitating the enhancement of employability and transversal skills.

This course is designed to allow learners to comprehensively explore the fields of Food Science, nutrition, and the core principles of modern food processing. Serving as a strategic springboard, the curriculum provides a balanced understanding of raw material safety, quality control, and industrial processing technologies, with a direct focus on preparing students for commercial employment or advanced studies.

The aim of this one year full time programme is to enable learners to acquire the theory, principles, practices and techniques underpinning Food Science and Food Processing to enable them to work under supervision in a variety of contexts in the food industry and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

Work placement will be a core element of this course. Supports will be provided with accessing high quality placements.

Extra supports are also available, where necessary, with literacy, numeracy, IT, career guidance and counselling.
