National Tour Guiding, Special Purpose Award is aimed at people who have a keen interest in heritage, culture, history and traditions of Ireland and their local areas with an enthusiasm for sharing this with others.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive the National Tour Guiding Badge (white) and be included in the Fáilte Ireland Industry Qualified Tour Guide Directory.

The aim of this course is to enable the students to acquire the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to provide guiding and tour management services for tourists visiting and travelling in Ireland. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates will be provided with Tour Guiding Badges and will be registered on the directory of qualified tour guides with Fáilte Ireland.

This Nature and Adventure Leadership course will teach you how to lead groups on low land trails through Irish woodlands and in coastal environments safely and responsibly. As a Lowland Leader and National Powerboat Certified skipper, you will have the skills to teach people about native flora and fauna in Ireland’s ecosystems, and share knowledge of ecological sustainability, conservation and biodiversity as you help connect people to both forest and coastal environments.

This course will give you the skills to further pursue a degree in ecology or outdoor education after the course if you wish.

Nautical Science has three main elements: navigation, cargo operations, and ship operations. In other words, the control of a ship; the safe operation of a ship, including the protection of life and the environment; Shipboard administration, and the handling, loading and care of cargoes which may be as diverse as petroleum products, general cargo, or thousands of new cars or passengers.

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career as a deck officer aboard ship. It provides a comprehensive education in navigation and other ship board activities.

The programme is aimed at professional seafarers with an undergraduate degree in Nautical Science who want to further their education and expand employment opportunities both at sea and ashore. On completion of BSc Honours in Nautical Science – Professional successful candidates will be eligible to apply for a Chief Mate Certificate of Competency (CoC) oral examination.

This programme is also available as an Academic only mode of study.

The programme is aimed at professional seafarers wishing to prepare and apply for a Chief Mate Certificate of Competency (CoC) oral examination.

The programme is designed for experienced seafarers with a minimum of 36 months of qualifying seagoing service. On programme completion successful candidates will attain an MTU Special Purpose Award and will be eligible to apply for Navigational OƯicer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (CoC) oral examination.

The programme is designed for fishing vessel deck oƯicers who hold Skipper Full or Second Hand Full Certificates of Competency and wish to gain Mercantile Marine qualifications. On programme completion the candidates will attain an MTU Special Purpose Award and will be eligible to apply for OƯicer of the Watch/Master on ships less than 500GT Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (CoC) oral examination.

Students are given the opportunity to identify the components of a computer and learn how they work. As part of this course, students will be required to assemble and disassemble a personal computer (PC), troubleshoot PC hardware and software problems, and build and maintain a peer-to-peer local area network. Throughout the course, there is a focus on the development of 'soft skills' such as problem solving, communication, and teamwork. All subjects are taught in a career-focused and interactive way.

Networking Technology is about designing and building computer networks and involves the physical installation and commissioning of networks and connection to the Internet. As a student, you will acquire the technical skills and knowledge necessary for a career in IT and computer networking. 

This course covers contemporary areas of Computer Networking and Information Security. Networking trains the student in all aspects of networks from Ethernet to Internet Protocol through to the configuration of Cisco network routers.

Information Security involves the securing of desktop computers and Networks from cyber attack, using current best practice to install and configure firewalls, Intrusion Detections Systems and anti malware software. The course also covers auditing and forensics.

A mix of theory and practice, this programme explores the development of media and its evolution in the digital age. You will develop your creative media production skills in camera, sound, editing and writing; your digital skills in photoshop, illustrator and adobe programmes; and your critical thinking in Film Studies, Media Studies, Journalism and Cultural Theory modules. 

The course will teach learners the fundamental skills to work in the Media industry across a variety of platforms. The course keeps pace with the ever evolving media landscape. It incorporates the practical skills and tools that allow learners to successfully pursue a career in media and journalism, including researching and writing, radio production, and technical skills. The course is designed for students who specifically want to progress onto a L6, L7 or L8 Media, Journalism or Communications course. Media graduates will have the appropriate level of academic writing and research methodologies to successfully complete a L8 degree.
