This long-established experimental physics course focuses on the real-world applications of fundamental physics. You’ll learn through a blend of lectures, tutorials and a strong element of laboratory and project work, gaining theoretical and analytical knowledge as well as excellent hands-on experimental, problem-solving and analytical skills. And you can focus on your core interests, by choosing from a range of specialisms such as data science, computational physics or semiconductors.

Gaining vital real-world experience
In third year, you’ll do an INTRA work placement, either in an industrial or research laboratory environment. We strongly support students applying for summer internships both nationally and internationally, and some Applied Physics students go on such competitive internships each year, both in Ireland and abroad.

The aim of this course is to prepare graduates for a range of technical positions within the multidisciplinary field of applied physics and instrumentation.

Whilst there is particular emphasis on employment within process industries, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, beverage and water, graduates are well equipped for employment in other sectors such as computers, medical devices and microelectronics, as well as in hospitals and in research and development.

Society and its many processes can be studied as a whole or in focus. Social studies adopts the wide, macro investigation while applied psychology concentrates on the in-depth, micro relationship between society and the individual.

This QQI level 5 course introduces the student to both investigative perspectives.

Society’s many benefits and pressures will be analysed with particular emphasis on the developmental stage of youth. The learner, in this research stage, will explore the areas of mental health and substance use with a view to identifying the social contexts which contribute to these issues and the range of therapeutic interventions and treatments available.

Our BSc in Applied Psychology is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour. This Applied Science – Forensics course explores the basics of forensic science, including evidence collection and analysis. Students will gain hands-on skills in fingerprinting, hair and fibre analysis, footprint casting, blood spatter examination, and DNA profiling. The course emphasises safe lab practices and develops problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and tech skills.

This program offers a comprehensive scientific foundation across biology, chemistry, and physics, placing a strong emphasis on the development of practical laboratory techniques. Designed for those pursuing careers in science or research, the course bridges theoretical concepts with rigorous hands-on experimentation, ensuring learners are proficient in safety protocols, data analysis, and the use of industry-standard lab equipment.

This course will prepare the learner for direct employment or for progression to third level and is accepted for entry to most science, food science, nutrition or health related courses in Ireland.

This course also includes maths, biology, chemistry, physics and IT skills. These subjects are common to all first year science qualifications and give students an advantage over students entering directly from leaving certificate.

This course prepares students for the role of pharmacy assistant by providing a foundation in medical terminology and basic science. As a pharmacy assistant, you will work as part of a healthcare team, supporting customers in achieving better health. Students may also complete the Irish Pharmacy Union’s Medicine Counter Assistant award.
