Our students have a great track record for progressing to Higher Education at all the major Art colleges and Universities.

You will explore core practical skills including drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media which are essential skills to prepare you for art colleges. You will use your creative thinking, ideas, style and visual communication throughout the creation of your portfolio.

Our practical projects and exhibitions include opportunities to work with professional artists, and to experience the professional world of art and design.

This programme aims to equip students with sufficient skills to allow them gain access to workshop training programmes/third level programmes.

It will also allow students the opportunity to prepare a portfolio of work. Students on this course may also have completed an Art and Sculpture (Foundation) course.

This programme offers a broad range of skills and development opportunities. Special attention is given to facilitate personal creativity. The overall aim of the programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge skills and competence to work autonomously and independently in a fine art context or to progress to higher education and training.

This course offers students an excellent opportunity to develop their creativity in a caring and professional environment. A team of teachers and professional artists lead the students in their experimentations, which helps them in building up confidence and skills.

Projects allow students to assemble a portfolio of work suitable to their particular interests which they may use to gain access to higher qualifications.

The aim of this one year full time course is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge skills and competence to work autonomously and independently in a fine art context and/or to progress to higher education and training.

Learners have the opportunity to build on skills learned at Level 5 and produce a personal body of work, focusing on specific projects.

Applicants will demonstrate specialised knowledge across a range of fine art disciplines in 2 and 3 dimensions.

This one-year Level 6 Art and Design foundation course introduces the learner to a variety of areas in art, design and communication. The course is an excellent foundation for any Level 8 design award, introducing a broad range of design disciplines in Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design/Architecture, Textile Design before students choose their pathway.

This course is designed to begin or build on your current portfolio and equip you with the foundations of what is required to present a high quality portfolio.

This course is fundamentally designed to provide students with a portfolio of the highest quality that will attain entry to Art and Design courses at third level both nationally and internationally.This programme may be delivered through a blended (hybrid) learning model where learners will be required to attend on-site and online classes.

This programme enables you to teach Art and Design at second level. It begins from the place of creative making in the studio setting where students are introduced to a variety of creative disciplines including; Fashion Design, Painting, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Sculpture, Animation & Motion Design, Printmaking and Contemporary Practice. Concurrent to this you will study educational theory and practice which will equip you with the teaching aptitudes and skills to enter into the profession of teaching Art and Design.

The programmes at Limerick School of Art & Design (LSAD) aim to assist students to become confident, articulate, informed, creative and expressive practitioners, who will be capable of making significant contributions in their own particular fields of contemporary culture.

This full-time art portfolio course provides a solid foundation in the necessary skills required for higher education or a career in art, craft or design. By covering a broad mix of disciplines, you will have the opportunity to find your own strengths.

We encourage the development of ideas through drawing and personal research. On completion of the course, you should have a portfolio reflecting a wide range of skills and experience but also a sense of focus and direction.

In the second and third terms of the year, many of the students will apply to third level colleges of art and design. We will assist these students in selecting and organising their work into the best possible portfolio to achieve acceptance on their chosen course.
