Additionally, you can attain internationally recognised professional qualifications as an exercise professional and a wide range of coaching qualifications in sports such as GAA, FAI, Athletics, Kayaking, Mountain Biking and Disability Inclusion Training.

This course provides a hands-on introduction to the leisure and fitness industry, prioritizing a "learning by doing" approach through intensive practical modules. In addition to earning a QQI Level 5 Award in Sports, Recreation, and Exercise, students gain professional coaching certifications from Basketball Ireland and the FAI. 

This course is suitable for you if you have a strong interest in sport and exercise science and wish to pursue a career in high performance sport, a clinical profession (e.g. physiotherapy, dietetics, medicine) and/or scientific research in sport and health sciences. You will study the scientific principles underlying the promotion and enhancement of sport, physical health and exercise across the lifespan.

The course is a mix of business, sports and leisure theory and applied modules providing you when you graduate with a wide range of competencies and attributes that you will find valuable working within the Sports, Leisure and associated sectors.

You will study topics such as Communication, Marketing, Intercultural Competence, Leadership in Health Activity and Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, Leisure Law, and Facilities Management. Graduates will build the attributes and competencies required to work in the field.

Our Bachelor of Science in Sports & Exercise with degree award options: Performance or Physical Education, is a four year programme that combines your passion for sports with a successful career progress through the course. Studying sport or exercise at third level is an opportunity to harness your passion and combine it with the knowledge to build a wonderful career in either sports performance or physical education studies. The first two years provide the core foundation of the degree, while the last two years allow you to specialise.

This programme allows you to use a scientific approach to analyse performance in sport and exercise and to develop academic and professional skills which you can use to find employment in this expanding field. Science subjects studied include physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition.
