This programme covers workshop practices, including working with lathes, milling machines and welders. The programme also covers engineering drawing and 3D design and printing techniques. Civil, Structural and Environmental engineers design, construct and operate a wide range of environmental infrastructure, vital to the needs of a modern economy. All the infrastructure around us, including roads, bridges, hospitals, universities, airports water, wastewater and energy facilities is the product of civil, structural and environmental engineering. Civil, Structural and Environmental engineering is the application of science to planning, design, and construction for the benefit of society while minimising environmental impact.

The Common Engineering Honours Entry Scheme is a one year programme for students interested in engineering as a career, but who may be unsure of which discipline to follow.

The Scheme gives students the opportunity to see all four engineering disciplines first hand. Through the various modules on offer, interaction with the lecturers and site visits will assist the student to decide which discipline suits him/her best.

During the first year of the course, our students are exposed to a learning environment that allows them to make informed choices about the next stage of their learning. The options available are dependent on the aptitudes, interests and career opportunities in the different fields. First-year students can talk to lecturers and other students to determine the best approach for them in their career. This gathering of information is very useful for students who know they want to do engineering but are not fully decided on what stream is best suited to them.

 BE Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a four-year professional engineering course designed to prepare students for employment in the electrical and electronic sectors in Ireland and abroad. It has a broad curriculum with strong practical content, including a work placement. It has an excellent record for graduate employment.

The first year of the BE is a broad education in engineering fundamentals. Through a combination of solid engineering fundamentals covered in the first two years of the course (e.g. thermodynamics, fluids, and electrical systems) and advanced energy engineering topics covered in the final two years (including power electronics, control systems, wind, solar photovoltaic and ocean energy, energy demand management and energy policy), graduates of the Energy Engineering course will be well-equipped to source, design, convert, transmit and supply useful energy to meet the world's present and long-term needs. 

This Common Entry course offers a mix of electronic, electrical, computer, robotics and mechanical. You can sample core engineering modules in first year so that you can decide which area of engineering you enjoy most before choosing the area you want to pursue in subsequent years. 

If you’re not sure which area of engineering to go for, this course is probably the right one for you. It’s designed to enable students to sample core engineering modules in first year and help them decide which area of engineering they most enjoy. They can then choose the area they want to pursue in subsequent years.

In your first year, you’ll study subjects such as Algebra and Geometry, Digital Electronics, Engineering Science, Fundamentals of Calculus, Electrical Science, Introduction to Electronic Communications and Professional Development for Engineers, and gain experience in Workshop Practice. 

This one-year course provides you with a general access route to engineering courses if you haven’t decided yet which engineering discipline you’d like to study. You’ll study Maths, Science, Engineering Design and Drawing, and will be given a general introduction to the engineering profession.

TU805 is the common first year entry point for the majority of four year Level 8 Engineering Degrees in TU Dublin. Students specialise in second and subsequent years and may choose:

The first year of the BE is a broad education in engineering fundamentals. Process and Chemical Engineers are involved in the design, modification and operation of processes to produce products across a broad range of process industries, including bio/pharmaceuticals,  food and drinks production, bulk chemicals and fuels/energy. Process and Chemical engineering helps provide a pathway towards meeting societal requirements around health and well being, energy provision, food production, water supply, waste management and consumer goods. 

Engineering is a wide area, covering such fields as civil, mechanics, electronics and computer technology. This course offers you the option of studying engineering in a general way for a year before going on to specialise in your chosen field in year two. It has been designed to help you make your choice about what professional engineering qualification you wish to study by giving you a year to study the basic concepts and fundamentals of engineering.

This course would suit individuals with an interest in mechanical systems, plant maintenance, and industrial machinery. It is ideal for those who enjoy problem-solving, working autonomously, and applying technical and practical skills in varied and unfamiliar tasks. It would also benefit those looking to progress their careers in maintenance roles across industries or seeking further qualifications in technical fields.

This course places emphasis on civil engineering design and practice, by developing specialised and in-demand industry skills. Students manage and design projects of all scales as individuals and as part of teams, on topics such as Fluid Mechanics, Highway Engineering, Structural Mechanics, and CAD.
