This comprehensive programme blends in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and nutrition with practical skills essential for roles in fitness instruction and personal training, coaching in Gaelic Football and Soccer as well as pool lifeguard skills. Through engaging coursework and hands-on learning, students develop a strong understanding of how the body functions and how nutrition fuels performance and recovery as well as gaining an understanding of various elements of the sport and fitness industry.

This course gives students a unique opportunity to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills within the context of sport. Additionally, you can attain internationally recognised professional qualifications as an exercise professional and a wide range of coaching qualifications in sports such as GAA, FAI, Athletics, Kayaking, Mountain Biking and Disability Inclusion Training.

This course provides a hands-on introduction to the leisure and fitness industry, prioritizing a "learning by doing" approach through intensive practical modules. In addition to earning a QQI Level 5 Award in Sports, Recreation, and Exercise, students gain professional coaching certifications from Basketball Ireland and the FAI. 

This course is suitable for you if you have a strong interest in sport and exercise science and wish to pursue a career in high performance sport, a clinical profession (e.g. physiotherapy, dietetics, medicine) and/or scientific research in sport and health sciences. You will study the scientific principles underlying the promotion and enhancement of sport, physical health and exercise across the lifespan.

The course is a mix of business, sports and leisure theory and applied modules providing you when you graduate with a wide range of competencies and attributes that you will find valuable working within the Sports, Leisure and associated sectors.

You will study topics such as Communication, Marketing, Intercultural Competence, Leadership in Health Activity and Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, Leisure Law, and Facilities Management. Graduates will build the attributes and competencies required to work in the field.
