This course is suitable for both mature students and school leavers who would like to pursue a fulfilling and rewarding career providing care and support to vulnerable people in the community, but who do not necessarily wish to be a healthcare/special needs assistant.

The aim of the course is to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of social care theories and best practice, and the opportunity to gain employment in the sector or progress to further or higher education.

This course promotes principles of inclusion, human rights, equality and social justice, working towards sustainable development and tackling issues such as inequality, climate change, poverty and disadvantage.

In this course, you’ll learn the knowledge and skills you need to work in community development and youth work. Subjects include sociology, psychology, community development, social policy, addiction, human rights, youth development and social entrepreneurship. The course has a strong element of experiential learning and involves fieldwork placements.

Students are faciliatated to explore current issues facing young people and those working in the field.

The BA in Community and Youth Work is a fully integrated programme of education and training in both community and youth work. Community work is concerned with the development and empowerment of communities through facilitating the active participation of people in addressing issues that affect them collectively.

This course is aimed at students who want to work as “Special Needs Assistants” in Primary Schools or to work in Social Care. This one-year, NFQ Level 5 course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to pursue careers in the Sports Industry as Sports Massage Therapists. The course consists of modules from both QQI and ITEC. The Level 3 ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is an internationally recognised award that allows learners to obtain professional indemnity insurance and practice Sports Massage on course completion. The course provides a pathway for learners to progress to higher education in the areas of Sports Rehabilitation, Health and Leisure with Massage and Exercise and Health. This course also allows progression to the Pre-Physiotherapy/Sports Therapy course at MSC. There are a combination of practical and theoretical modules that allow for an interesting and varied years activity. Learners are actively encouraged to secure work experience in this area.

The programme will promote good practice among those working with people with additional needs, special needs children in the primary or secondary classroom situation or as a community care assistant with individuals with special needs.
