This intensive one-year program serves as a dual-purpose gateway for students aspiring to enter the nursing profession or work as Healthcare Assistants. Students train in a specialized nursing suite—modeled after a hospital room in St. James’s Hospital—using industry-standard equipment such as manual and ceiling hoists, hospital beds, and wheelchairs. 

The overall aim of the programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings and / or to progress to further or higher education and training.

A Nursing Studies QQI Level 5 course serves as a foundation step towards pursuing a career in nursing. It provides students with essential knowledge, skills and competencies needed to enter nursing education programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

This course is an introduction to Nursing and will benefit anyone wishing to enter the Healthcare profession using a QQI qualification. It is recognised nationally by Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland and in the UK. It provides a learning environment, in which learners are encouraged, assisted and ultimately required to take responsibility for their own learning. Essential skills in nursing care are taught by our qualified staff in our fully equipped ward.

Students must complete work experience in a Nursing/Care facility. Prior to engaging in practical Work Experience, students will complete both People Moving & Handling and PHECC First Aid Responder (FAR) Courses. Successful students will be awarded a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Nursing Studies – 5M4349.

The Nursing Studies - Maternity and Children program is a specialized foundation course designed for aspiring midwives, pediatric nurses, and healthcare professionals. The curriculum focuses heavily on preparing students for the academic, ethical, and personal demands of third-level university education. By combining diverse theoretical modules with a practical work placement—which students arrange in a healthcare setting of their choice—the course delivers a comprehensive overview of specialized maternal and pediatric care. This BSc (Honours) in Nutrition and Health Science course is a unique interfacial degree with an equal emphasis on both nutrition and health science. This course provides an approach to nutrition that is based on the scientific and academic principles of biology, biochemistry, social and public health aspects of human nutrition, as well as encompassing emerging issues such as biotechnology, food sustainability and security. This course develops students, across the disciplines of nutritional science, health promotion, research and practice-based nutrition, to build competencies towards becoming an accredited nutritionist.

This Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science course is aimed at students who want to develop their knowledge of Nutrition, Health Promotion & Food Science. The applied nature of this programme focuses on the relationship between food and health and the study of food from a scientific view point. This course provides successful students with the knowledge, competency and entry requirements necessary to access numerous science based programmes at Third level colleges throughout Ireland. The course also provides students with the necessary skills to gain employment in the food industry.

This program offers a comprehensive introduction to the evolving fields of nutrition, health promotion, and food science. It bridges the gap between theoretical science and practical application, focusing on the critical link between diet and human health. Learners gain a robust foundation in dietetics and food technology, developing the skills to analyze the biochemical properties of food and understand its impact on physical performance and wellbeing. The curriculum is specifically designed to prepare students for the academic rigors of specialized degree programs or for direct entry into the health and food retail sectors.

This one-year full time The Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science course is aimed at students who want to develop their knowledge of Nutrition, Dietetics, Health & Food Science. Students are introduced to the areas of Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Processing and Biology. This course equips the learner with vocational skills and knowledge to acquire the theory, principles and techniques underpinning the science of dietetics, food and health. It also allows students to progress to a variety of third-level courses in the science and nutrition areas throughout Ireland. This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme is aimed at students with a strong interest in food, nutrition and food product development as well as students who are interested in developing a diverse range of entrepreneurial skills and business acumen. The BSc seeks to prepare students for the challenges of producing foods safe for human consumption, developing more nutritious, healthier food options for dynamic, ever-changing markets.

The BSc Nutritional Sciences course focuses on the role of diet in health promotion and disease prevention (including problems related to undernutrition and over-nutrition, and especially the major non communicable chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis). This is done from an individual, national and international perspective, using insights gained from a wide range of scientific disciplines.
