The BSc in Applied Sports Science with Performance Technology prepares students to work in an emerging field of sports analysis. This course is underpinned with exercise science to provide students with the background knowledge of developing sports performance.

This programme is ideal for students who have an interest in sport, recreation, outdoor pursuits, or in coaching and instruction. It offers students the opportunity to acquire appropriate practical expertise and enables them to develop the competencies to be effective leaders in the sport industry and provide several  pathways through postgraduate study.

This programme aims to offer students the opportunity to complete year one of a common entry degree in Sports Science, with Tipperary ETB, before having a guaranteed progression route to years two to four with TUS Midwest (Thurles Campus).

Year one will provide students with the opportunity to begin to learn about anatomy, movement, nutrition, exercise, strength and conditioning, as they relate to the study of sport.

Having successfully completed year one of the degree, students will progress to year two of their chosen degree in one of the following:

Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience during the course by working with populations of all ages, genders, and abilities through modules such as Nutrition Across the Lifecycle and The Female Athlete, as well as during work placement (or studying abroad) in the third year of the course.

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning offers an in-depth education on this growing area of interest, both in Ireland and internationally. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is becoming a central and key figure in preparing and advancing the fitness and performance status of the individual athlete and team both in professional sport and also in amateur and recreational sport.

The BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning prepares students to work with children, youths, and adults in various sporting environments. This course focuses on the applied nature of exercise science.

The course content will be delivered through theory and practical classes. We place a significant emphasis on preparing students to be able to deliver the knowledge through practical coaching sessions. Over the four years, students will study the components of fitness, the principles of training, sports nutrition, sports psychology, learn how to analyse biomechanical movements and the science of sport.

Students will be introduced to key concepts, practices, and policies in the field of professional youth whilst examining national and global issues that can have an impact on youth work and young people. Students develop empathetic skills in communication, psychology and youth justice whilst experiencing two different forms of work placement in community settings. All students will also have the opportunity to undertake two work placements, as part of their studies.

The Commis Chef Apprenticeship is a formal structured two year education and training programme, incorporating periods of off the job training and skills development in college and work based knowledge and skills development on the job skills in an approved industry kitchen.

Apprentices will gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, cook and present a wide variety of dishes and commodities to a professional standard. The apprentice will gain an internationally recognised qualification, continue to earn whilst they learn with an employer of their choice, enrich their work immediately as they acquire new skills and enhance their employment prospects and career opportunities.

If you study Archaeology, you will see the world, time and the human condition in an entirely new way. Archaeology is a uniquely multidisciplinary subject, using all sources of evidence from the past, from ancient manuscripts to the scientific analysis of plants, animals and materials.

Through undertaking Archaeology as a degree, you will learn how to assess, explain and make connections between different types of evidence that will allow you to develop a deeper understanding about the past.

Students will also develop practical skills valued by employers, such as report writing, teamwork, presentation, communication and analytical skills.

This four year programme enables students to become architectural technologists with additional advanced skills in Building Information Technology (BIM). Students will become competent in the ‘science of building’ and the production of construction drawings and specifications for complex building types, allowing them to become technical members of construction design teams.

This course prepares learners for entry to degree courses in Architecture related courses. The Principles of Design and Construction will be explored through design projects, drawing and model making. History of Architecture will also be covered including visits to exhibitions and various buildings. The methods and theory of different building construction techniques and materials will be investigated, including a practical build project. The course will result in a comprehensive selection of portfolios which can be used for entry to various third level courses. This course will also appeal to anyone with an interest in architecture.

Architecture is a rewarding field of work and study that calls for both creative and technical skill in the design of buildings and environments.

An Architect’s work primarily focusses on creative, conceptual and detail design of buildings. An Architectural Technologist works more on the technical design for construction.

Learners will gain skills in the areas of building design and sustainability, to prepare them for either Architecture or Architectural Technology.

The Architectural pathway emphasises conceptual and spatial design, theory of architecture and model-making.

The Architectural Technology pathway develops abilities in building construction and technical design.

The award winning BEng Hons Architectural Engineering has been designed for innovative individuals with an interest in building services and renewable technologies.

You will study the design of heating and cooling systems for buildings, electrical and energy supply and use, and water supply and disposal. You will also examine the legislations that affect the built environment and the need for a radical and sustainable approach to building services if the environmental impact of existing/new buildings is to be dramatically reduced.

Renewable energy systems are an increasing focus for the delivery of zero carbon energy and throughout the course you will explore the use and integration of these technologies.

The architectural technologist is involved with the technical issues of the architectural design process and plays the role of a technical designer. They are a team player who provides an expertise in technical design principles and knowledge in the development of the built environment. They are an organiser and coordinator of the diverse disciplines involved in the design and construction process.
